I used to know several good CB radio shops in the DC metro area. Unfortunately I think all of the ones I went to closed over the years. How about the good old internet for CB service?
Yeah I would call that wheeling and yeah your trailer looks like it's happily following. That's kinda what I was thinking as far as an ideal trailer weight. Towing a m101 sized trailer up the same trails could be a problem :Wow1:
Bill, that's about what I was thinking too. Mark, it's a whole other story with a full sized truck. Nice work on your build. I'll be following it for future ideas!
How heavy are your expedition trailers? I'm in the design phase of building and expo trailer. In the past I've towed trailers with various weights from 500-5000 lbs. Never mind the factory tow rating of 5000 lbs; my little V6 Toyota seems to do best on the highway and do best off road when...
Cool, thanks for the write-up! Being a Pend Oreille native, the wife and I have been talking about a run up MolyB for a while now. How is the trail up from the gate? Mtn Bike-able? Is there much tree-fall?
I've found the same thing; shop around the topper dealers. On my old Taco' I had an Raven top (made by Glasstite, I think). I've broken three windows out it on three different occasions. Different dealers would quote different prices. But in any case, the replacement was always strait forward. I...
Funny picture; I had to look carefully to see that the distant tower was not mounted to your left rear panel :sombrero:
This is a great thread. I'm trying to decide on the "perfect" 2 meter antenna for my 4Runner. Everything is a compromise!
Oh I see, thanks for the pics. Your rack is similar to mine, however, I guess you avoided the problem of the ground plane entirely by using that particular antenna. What's the length?
Do you have a picture of your roof rack mount? I've been wanting to mount my 2 meter antenna on my roof cargo rack, but I'm not sure what kind of ground plane I'll get when I account for the metal in the rack.
The bike storage options bother me too. There's just not enough room to sleep and have the bikes inside. I like your wings because at least you can transport the bikes inside, if not sleep with them at the same time. Nice job :sombrero: And think I have the same Surly...Cross Check right...
Yeah, I based my design on his plans. It worked out pretty well, if not as elaborate. Check out this thread right here on expo in the "Storage" section. It's pretty much THE reference for truck/SUV drawer systems:

I'm in the process of designing my own trailer from the ground up. My reasoning is as follows: Commercially available trailers are bad ***, but WAY out of my budget. With a custom built trailer, I can start with the basics and add what I need, when I can afford it. Plus commercially expedition...

Please keep the thread updated with your build! This is very similar to what I'm planning and being a metal working newbie, I need all the inspiration and advice I can get :bike_rider:
How much do you think it will wiegh?
Me too. With our winters there's no way to keep water from freezing in a vehicle (unless you've got a heated garage of course). This is an issue with my first aid kit because I carry saline and other freezable liquids, and also my fire extinguisher, which apparently isn't supposed to get below...
One thing I've done to help make sense of repeaters on the same channel, but different PL tones, is to program my scans for specific regions. For example, Scan 1 is called "Simplex", Scan 2 is "Eastern Washington Repeaters", Scan 3 is "Western Washington Repeaters", scan 4 is "Idaho and Montana...
Yeah I've noticed that many of the frequencies I have programmed for my local are the same as other locals. This would be just great if only it weren't for the PL tones. Your statement about 65 designated frequencies may or may not be true, but with the PL tones, you're actually looking at 65 to...
I don't know much, but I do know that gromets are easy. Get a kit for $5 at your local hardware store and have fun grometting. Once you do a few of them it only takes about 30-40 seconds per gromet. In addition to the kit I got at "Do It Best", I also used a block of wood to bang them against...
