    School Me on Heavy Trucks

This topic has been covered here ad nauseum. There are no crew-cab 4x4 cabover trucks available new in the US. Previously, only Mitsubishi's FG was available and IMO, it is a poor choice for "overlanding". As noted above, there are several companies taking new regular or crew cab trucks from 2wd...

2022 Ford F550 - DIY - Adventure Expedition Vehicle Build Thread

Vance, I wish I had found this thread sooner; it would have been cool to lend a hand and see the panels being infused. I have very basic composite experience and do not envy your chosen method of construction, though I am certain the final product will be top notch.

    International 4700 4X4 Rescue Conversion

No Home Depot/Lowes/Ace/True Value sealant will stand the test of time. You need to call Lord Adhesives, Henkel, Sika or 3M tech support and speak with an application engineer. Tell them you need a product with long term UV stability, and one that can stand up to constant weather exposure...

    06 fuso fe over heating

Wow, that is an old post. Honestly, I don't remember much about what we did to get it all sorted and that truck is long gone. A coolant flush certainly cannot hurt, but I did not have any head gasket issues with which to deal and never opened the engine. Everything WAS sorted eventually, but I...

    International 4700 4X4 Rescue Conversion

Instead of drawers or cabinets, consider a simple, open shelf with lips on the forward edge or elastic to retain Sidio crates or soft cubbies. Foam can also be custom cut to hold plates, mugs and glasses and the entire block can be inserted into a cubby hole, eliminating drawer slides, locks...

    World-Class Outfitters

Howard, I agree on all points and do shop locally, buy the best products that I can afford and go out of my way to make long-term purchases over $4 Chinese pliers that will break in a few months to "get the job done" and toss them "away" when done, wherever "away" is. Sadly, you are correct that...

    World-Class Outfitters

I searched the board and the web, generally, but didn't come up with much. Presumably, those in the know, know where to go. However, for those who aren't in the know, where do you go? Maybe you get lucky and meet a knowledgeable guy or girl at your local REI, climbing gym or an OvEx show, but...

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

Interco offers an SSR in 35x10.50R16, but this is an old design. Kenda offers a Rough Terrain in 35x10.50R17 and those are the only two I can find. Unless clearance is a majour issue, I would rather have the much more popular 35 x 12.50 or the metric equivalent, nominally 315/70R17 or 315/75R16.

2005 Tundra novice build - "The Rez"

A 35 x 10.50 is a difficult tire to find. In fact, I only know of one or maybe two companies offering that size tire. In contrast with people such as Andrew White, who advocate running a skinny tire to optimise off road traction, my experience has been quite the opposite. In nearly 30 years of...

    Pro-Rig V2.0 - Home Built Compact Composite Pop-up

"The spray adhesive used on the wall with just foam insulation is not. " Can you elaborate on this? Are your interior wall panels delaminating from the XPS foam core?

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

For many years, at least in the 60s and 70s, high beam switches were on the (USA) driver's left side floor board, where you may find a dead pedal or foot rest. This makes so much sense to me, but I have not seen it on a car or truck in decades. Tap the switch to turn on the high beams, tap it...

XPS Sandwich Panels availability in the US

EPS and Polyurethane CAN work, as long as the box is properly reinforced, so the load is taken off the core material of the sandwich. If you REALLY want a structural sandwich panel, you will need to use something like Gurit or Divinycell and a carbon, fiberglasss or Aramid skin, impregnated with...

    Larger than a Dana 60?

A true Super 60, a.k.a Fat Boy is rated at a higher GAWR and is noticeably wider than the 60 found on an F250. Look at a 450 or 550 beside a 250 and you will see the track is much wider. This allows a sharper turning radius and is quite useful when you get into roll back and flat beds being...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Look to the commercial world, e.g. walk in freezers, high end commercial refrigeration, etc. Those types of seals are made to insulate and seal well. You will buy a seal once, not over and over again. There is a night and day difference between these types of seals and Chinesium bought from...

    Mini earthroamers?

Something to consider with dual-cab light-duty trucks such as Rangers and Tacomas/HiLuxes, is wheelbase. If you look at the bottom right corner of the image posted above, you will see a quarter-ton truck with a small camper on the back. Notice that the front of the camper is nearly in alignment...

    Camper and Truck Photos

It's hard to beat first-gen Tacomas and Tundras for do-it-all, super reliable vehicles. Add second and third-gen 4Runners in, as well, but don't tell anyone; finding clean examples of those older trucks is getting harder and harder.
