    Vario project started

Thanks Jostein, I can understand your arguments for not using the entire cabinets, guess I might "steal" your idea and go the same way as you did, and make the cabinets by myself, and then use hinges and front doors from IKEA. Will you be adding a "push lock bottom" or similar to keep the doors...

    Vario project started

Nice work Jostein! Is it custom made cabinets or Ikea or similar? (Only asking since I am going to use similar type of cabinets with plain white fronts n the Unimog, and currently I'm considering buying them from Ikea and just do some modification work to make them fit my build.)

Aha, thanks for info. I believe they are a good compromise between quality and price. Allso nice to see that you are choosing quite big windows. In my oppinion a lot of manufacturers of overland/expo campers choose to install way to small windows, thus resulting in having to little natural light...

Meet the Trot'n Turtle - Unimog U1300L Build

Or, you could buy the newer doorpocket from the U4000/U5000 with integrated cup-holders. It's quite cheap directly from Mercedes and is bolt on. (Ian has it on his camper) BTW: Progress looks awsome, loving the way it's coming together! :)

    Norwegian Unimog U1700L camper build

So; we managed to bolt up the rear storage boxes and connect the rear lights. They will be removed again later on to be painted in the same colour as the supportframe. But it was nice to see that they fitted as planned. Yesterday I took the beast out for a short spinn, just loosen up everything...

    Norwegian Unimog U1700L camper build

Next on the list were the rear storage boxes for both sides of the truck, with integrated fixing for rear lights First off all we needed to decide what type of rear lights we would like to use for the truck, since this would affect how we designed the rear storage boxes. The original rear...

Then we went ahead and fabricated some corner protectors out of aluminum, these will be glued into place on the outer top and lower corners on the camper box, outside the GRP angle profiles which already are mounted. The idea is that they shall act as a “scratch protector” against overhanging...

    Norwegian Unimog U1700L camper build

It’s been a while since the last update, so I figured I’d give you a heads up on what’s been happening to our project for the last months. After the camper box was mounted to the support frame we have been working on various bits and pieces for the camper. Next on our list was to fabricate the...

    Norwegian Unimog U1700L camper build

Once the camper box was installed on the support frame, I drilled 18 Ø13 holes and fixed the box to the frame with M12x100 bolts. The holes through the floor plate was measured up and drilled so that the holes were drilled through the wood reinforcements, which are casted into the sandwich. This...

    Norwegian Unimog U1700L camper build

There hasn’t been too much time to work on the Unimog lately, but finally we managed to install the outer corner profiles. Last weekend it was then time to unite the camper box with the support frame. But before the camper box was lifted onto the support frame we covered the frame with 5mm...

    Norwegian Unimog U1700L camper build

So, we were lucky to get some lifting help from good friends last weekend, as a result we managed to install both the last side wall, and the roof! The wall was installed last friday, and with the help of an electric fan oven, the glue hardened quickly enough to allow the roof to be installed...
