    Ultra-Rare Brass-Plated WARN M8274 Winch Found

This is 1 of 5 brass-plated WARN M8274 winches that were given out to people in the off-road industry in the 1980s. This one was given to the woman who ran the Oakland 4 Wheel Parts story from 1977 to 1989. Ruth is quite the woman, and she recently returned this to us to have for our...

Hook or thimble for synthetic line on a Wrangler Unlimited?

For what it's worth, the red WARN hook strap is specifically for grabbing onto vs grabbing onto the hook. It keeps your hand just that much farther from the winch's fairlead. Another option is to look at our Epic Hook. They are forged, powdercoated and e-coated, have a durable safety clasp...

Introducing The Next Generation of WARN VR Winches

Cris -- first, we recommend using WARN synthetic rope on our winches. It's the only rope we test on our winches. Our rope has a heat sleeve to help protect the rope from heat. However, we have done extensive testing on all of our winches with our synthetic rope, and it's totally 100% fine...

Introducing The Next Generation of WARN VR Winches

The only WARN truck winches that are imported from China are the VR series, and that is so we can compete on price. However, they are made at a factory that makes winches solely for us. The VR is not just another me-too/open-source winch that gets everyone's name slapped onto it. It's 100% our...

New WARN Ascent Bumpers for '16-'17 Toyota Tacoma

No worries; we're all entitled to our opinion. One thing to note about the front bumper is that it's configured so you have easy access to the winch during the recovery process, hence one reason for its design. - Andy

    Warn 8074?

Oops my mistake. yes, it has power in and power out, but no freespool. In 1974 we added the clutch, hence the M8274. These may have been dealer installed by AMC; I know Warn did some of that. However, they were not exclusively sold to dealers.

    Warn 8074?

That's pretty cool, actually. FYI, the "2" in 8274 stands for "two way" as in power in, and power out. (Not sure why we didn't call this the 8174, but so be it) And just for reference and to impress other off-road geeks: 8 = 8,000 lb. 2 = Two way (power in, power out) 74 = year it was...

Tips to Keep your Multi-Mount at the Ready

The WARN Multi-Mount allows you to mount a WARN winch to a portable cradle that can be inserted into a class III receiver hitch. You can use it on the front or back of your rig, and it can be completely removed if you don't want it on the vehicle at all. So where do you put it when it's not in...

Not sure if I should replace my M8000 with a 10K winch

Our general rule of thumb is 1.5 x Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (not curb weight). And yes, snatch blocks are a great tool to have! We generally recommend keeping 5 warps on the drum to be safe. Also, remember: your winch's maximum pulling power is on that first wrap on the drum, so for those...

    The Warn CLW (P2000)

Ah, the old P2000. This was one of our early portable winches. It likely would've had a mounting plate and chains to rig it; may have had a carrying case. I believe we discontinued these in the early 1990s or so after the P2500 came out. It predated our former WARN Works utility winches...
