    Mounting Ham Antenna to Jeep

The aforementioned bulkhead adapter is the way to go. Good choice on the SG7200. As a 1/2 wave on 2m, and a 5/8 wave vertical dipole on 70cm, this antenna won't need a ground plane to work. Don't swap it out with the ubiquitous 1/4wave 2m antenna, as that antenna does need a groundplane and...

    Intro/Gecko build thread

How are you liking the overhead console? I went with a Pavement optional radio rack to mount my overhead radio gear. I can't mount any MOLLE bags to it since there isn't any space left. Obligatory "sitting in the driveway" shot.

    CB Power Up Issues

Have you tried putting a multimeter on your power wires or driving that radio from a different power source to see if with of them makes the issue go away?

    Wiring

A mechanical relay won't cause issues as long as your radio is OK with having the power shut off out from under it. I've got a Uniden scanner that runs off a SD card. It tends to corrupt the SD card if I unplug it while it is on.

PICTURE THREAD: Post up your Mobile HAM setups

I decided to install a Ham setup in my Jeep and trailer. Since I like being overpowered, I installed a little bit too much. That being said, I'm happy with how it came out. Here is what I've installed: Jeep: Uniden BDC536hp scanner with GPS Laird Technologies WPD136M6C-001 scanner antenna on...

I took my Krawler back up to Treeline last weekend to have Tom give me a hand installing a communications package in the trailer. We installed an Icom IC-7100, IT-100 tuner, Uniden BCD-536hp scanner, and some power and sound accessories to get the other parts to work. The install went really...

These are custom built to order, not sold off-the lot like cars. I believe haggling is not appropriate. Consider that you are hiring a craftsman to built it, by hand, to your specs. A very significant part of the cost is their labor. Haggling is effectively saying "I want you to build me this...

Anybody running the Kenwood TS-2000 as a mobile unit?

Isn't the RS-2000 mobile kit for this radio discontinued? I would love to run one of these myself but since the mobile head is unobtanium I'm currently leaning towards a 480HX and a D710G. The downside of this choice is that I need to mount two control heads.

I needed the second battery to allow me to run my HF radio. It draws 30 amps when transmitting at full power and the single battery couldn't keep up without the voltage dropping too low. Since I don't transmit very often it doesn't kill the reserves, I just needed to be able to support a...

    Portable Base HF Antenna

I've been using an Antron 99 vertical on top of my teardrop. It works great on 10m/CB for TX. I understand if I got a tuner then it would probably work up to around 20m. My current radio can't go lower then 10m so I would need to replace a bunch of stuff to try it. For RX it is able to pick up...

So much of what goes into a so Cal teardrop is custom ordered that it is pretty tough to establish a baseline for resale value. I didn't think it makes sense to custom order one, wait the months for it to be built to your specs, then sell it shortly after. If you are going to do that then try...

Has anyone tried mounting a beefier wheel on the front of their teardrop? I'm considering one of these: http://www.arkportablepower.com/pages/xo-trailer-jack I'm building up to trying to drag my teardrop across the Rubicon or Dusy Ershim.

Choosing a Trailer for Central/South America family expedition

A fifth wheel type trailer does not like offroad conditions. Look up what happens if the tow vehicle and the trailer become offcamber in opposite directions. Most fifth wheel type couplers can only handle a few degrees of camber before things break.

Who has done it ?? ??

I'm not sure about the northeast, but here in the west, even many of the national forest service roads are not 8' wide. My 4 1/2 foot wide (bed), 6 1/2 wide total teardrop just barely fits between the trees.

Yulli: thanks. This setup works really well for us. Thanks about the user name. In the ye-olde days of AOL it kept telling me that my preferred screen names were taken and I had to pick an unused user name. I guess it worked. Wifey loves camping but isn't ok with sleeping in a tent so we...

SoCal Tear Drop Owners! Post up!

Hello all! I have a '14 "model" 459 put together by Treeline Teardrops, which is effectively a SoCal Teardrop that was assembled in Petaluma, CA. It's pretty well equipped and running 35s. Has anyone attempted to take their teardrop down one of the harder trails, like Dusy Ershim or the...
