    Rangadanga's 2001 Suburban 2500

Nice trip! Wish there were more trails like that closer to here. That rtv will be fine for a good while. Mine had it in the holes with no rack when I bought it which is why I had to buy one and the inside of mine is bone dry. Just smear it up over a little bit so it seals around the nutsert...

GMT400 Suburban as Base Overland Rigs?

I run 35s on my 99 k2500 ccsb (same chassis as a 96 k2500 burb with 8 bolt axles) with a key crank and blocks BUT you will lose most if not all of the down travel on the front suspension. The body lift will maintain the original suspension travel, and be easier on CV joints BUT you may need to...

GMT400 Suburban as Base Overland Rigs?

OP either the 400, 800, or 900 k2500 will give you a seriously stout platform to start with. The underpinnings of the gmt800 and 900 are exactly the same. On the 400 youll find either the 5.7, the 7.4 or a 6.5 diesel. The 800 will get a 6.0 or 8.1 and 900 will have the 6.0. None of the 2500s...

GMT400 Suburban as Base Overland Rigs?

Nice Burb! That is very nicely done. Im sure delusional will be in soon to tell you that a ifs coil sprung 1500s with 37s is so much better.

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

Yes thats exactly what it looks like. Cranked bars, front bumper, roof rack, and a snorkel is exactly what kids do when they inherit Moms 'hoe. Nobodys saying its not capable but youre confusing two similar terms. Overlanding is what millenial types that have to have an identity do. They drive...

    Rangadanga's 2001 Suburban 2500

Damn! Where the hell are you at? I bought a regular rack and 2 z71 in perfect shape with extra crossbars for $40 per rack. Go find a pull it yourself junk yard and walk the yard till you find a nice rack. 12 holes would be correct there are 2 bolts per "leg", 3 "legs" per side. It doesnt matter...

    Rangadanga's 2001 Suburban 2500

Either burb rack, regular or z71 will fit. The z71 rack is a little harder to take apart. Take a set of allen and torx keys (i dont remember which) and a cordless impact if you have it and penetrating oil even if youre not in rust country. Grab some extra screws and crossbars off of other...

    Rangadanga's 2001 Suburban 2500

Easy solution is to get a new roof rack from the LJY. Second easiest is to fill the roof rack holes with black urethane. The hard and most pointless is to weld, gring and repaint the areas.

    Overlandtowater’s solid axle suburban

I wouldnt connect them. You shouldnt have any fluid going between the two but because they are used to vent pressure from heat build up it could cause some issue. Just get some longer tube and run them together up behind the engine.

00-07 1500 silverado frames tough enough?

The gmt800s have a stronger frame than the older rigs with a straightaxle front end.

Best suburban base to start with?

Youre wasting your time. He has posted that a cam swap 5.3 can make the same power as an 8.1. Even though the 5.3 only approaches those numbers near redline while the 8.1 is making that torque at idle.

Best suburban base to start with?

Unless you have spindly little bird legs the brakes work just fine with the engine off. All the hydroboost does is make it easier to push the pedal. Thats as nonsensical as your "a cam and a tune and the 5.3 makes just as much power as the 8.1" delusional as always.

1st Gen Sequoia vs GMT800 Suburban Advice

Well not quite. The corrected version would read "Most every autopart store with lights on will have the parts you need, except for anything having to do with quadra steer." Try and find a new pump for the steering system, hell try and find a used one that works. It may be a cool feature, but it...

    Paging fellow Yetis...

Gmt800 tahoe or suburban. Im just under 6'3" and I also have stupidly broad shoulders (54 long jacket). Its a bit of a curse but nice when you need to lift stupid heavy things or heavy stupid people. Theres plenty of room for a big guy in either of the above.

Rhino Rack Pioneer slot nuts on the cheap

For those in Canada you dont need Mcmaster Carr. Any electrical supply house or most big box stores carry uni strut and its accessories. Worst case scenario gets some 1/4" steel bar stock in the proper width and drill and tap for what ever bolt size you need.

    Gas can kill.

Im more concerned that you think this is a NEW style of camping than I am with my external tanks rupturing. This "overlanding" has been around since the advent of the car. The only new thing about it is the stupid word "overlanding". Its called driving. Some people just choose to "drive" off of...

    Last 2500 Suburban

The shocks are most likely whatever was the cheapest bidder that met the specs, if they bought in bulk or whatever the local mechanic used depending on the what station it came from. Some are large enough they have their own mechanics some have to use local shops.
