The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

Well you don't drive one because the badge says you don't - you drive a GX which is equivalent to a Prado. If that bothers you or anybody else it means the term "Landcruiser" has teeth and it has teeth for a reason, if it didn't have teeth, nobody would be bothered their Prado is not called a...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

Again - you water down this LC you lose the character of the rig. There is a reason 40/60/80/100's demand the premium they do in the market that NO other rig even comes close to. A manuf. builds a rig with certain engineering goals in mind, those goals are apparent based on how overbuilt the...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

Don't be a drama queen, we are just having a discussion....."Landcruiser" always meant something very specific in the US and that *may* be changing, I don't think that is a good thing and I am not alone. Your opinion is worth just as much as mine and has nothing to do with headlights on a...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

And I'm partially talking out of my rear end because I don't know....but I do know, I like LC's because of the heritage and design philosophy, it makes them unique and it gives them character. Using your LR example the "LUST" comes, in part, from the English gentile sipping his Gin and Tonic...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

I'll also add, if Toyota wasn't playing the enthusiast game.....why compare them to "retro" cruisers and put in old school styling cues and use marketing terms that compare them to old cruisers? They are OBVIOUSLY playing the bait and switch a bit with vintage cruiser lineage, they need to be...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

Torque is not the primary metric for towing, necessarily. My Ranger had the sim HP to this and it towed 7500 lbs.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

That's not necessarily true - 4th owner of an 80 drives perceived reliability and common consensus amongst consumers, Toyota didn't get to where they are by making something that didn't last and wasn't popular 2nd/3rd or 4th hand. I bet if you go and ask an average buyer of a...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

I'm as much of a capitalist as anybody but I think what you are saying is very shortsighted. The "Landcruiser" name, along with the Toyota "Minitruck" are where they are because of the legacy. Enthusiasts are a large part of that history and legacy by continuing to repair, build out and modify...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

So apparently I am out of the loop, is the new Tacoma getting the 9.5" rear diff the cruisers used to get? There are some rumors they are, that would surprise me since even a F150 which has much more payload, heavier and tows more has a 8.8" one stock with the Max Payload getting a 9.75". Any...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

Why not just get a clean low mile 2022? Something else I thought about from an enthusiast perspective is a more subvert position from Toyota....all the new rigs are (apparently) based on a common platform, why not make the attachment points the same so GX/LC250 folks can upgrade to the HD stuff...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

Toyota needs to tread very very carefully IMO, enthusiasts drive the legacy, LC are what they are in the US because of enthusiasts, they don't want to step on those toes and need to respect that relationship. It keeps prices up, drives forums sections like on Expo and IH8MUD, drives...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

That is a lot of marketing jargon, that's painful to read. I don't care per-se, but the enthusiast piece of Landcruisers exists because they are different, built to a higher standard and use unique pieces engineered for specific purpose.....it's too bad that is not the case anymore.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

I don't recall hearing that....but looking at the photos on IH8MUD - the rear axles looked to me to be the same size between the LX600 and the GX550.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

Wonder if towing is decreased due to added battery weight or the vehicle not being built as robust? It does concern me towing is down....it kinda points to it being less Landcruiser and more Prado.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

I won't play the game either - ADM and I walk which I've done several times, it's poor form and don't appreciate it and wish manuf. would not allow dealers to do it. The unfortunate thing is it pushes the REAL 'enthusiast' type people, like some of us on here, out 2-3 years out because we...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

I don't think it's passive aggressive - there is some 'fact' in what they are saying...while a Prado my be a Landcruiser in spirit is more of a marketing term as they are not built with the same duty cycle in mind. With your logic we could call the GX's, 4runner, FJCruiser and I guess the...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

I think the Priuses have been very reliable - they work cab duty in many cities.....now they don't operate in extreme environments, but have shown how reliable they are in fairly demanding working conditions.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

Any intel on axles being "Landcruiser" vs "Prado" based? Guessing since GX550 vs LC600 and GX550 = LC250, we are getting lighter duty platform.....but Toyota is very careful not to throw around the "Landcruiser" name without having the hardware to back it up. Based on the photo's I've seen...
