Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

Picking up where we left off.... The repair panels went on the frame pretty easily, and luckily we didn't find any other spots that needed to be patched. Using a plasma cutter and grinding stone makes this job pretty quick, then it's just a matter of getting them welded on. I believe our patch...

Titan swap too much for just overlanding?

I'm a minority opinion here, but I'm largely against the Titan swap for a number of reasons, especially if you're not getting hardcore off road. If you're crawling with it, I'd say go for it, but otherwise I think it's unnecessary. The extra width is annoying, like what @broncobowsher noted...

My 2016 frontier build and adventure thread!

I had a similar tent setup on mine for a year or two and did really like it. It's a bit limited on overall storage space, but if you're a lightweight packer, it's more than good enough. I may have missed it, but are you using a tonneau cover at all? That was my original plan.

So, yes and no. I do have the lift and pulling the body has crossed my mind, but all of the body mount bolts are pretty well rusted and would be a headache to remove. Also, I've been using my brother-in-law's lift for about four months. I'd like to let him have it back since he's so graciously...

Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

So I spent some time doing a little work on the Cruiser last night and had a chat with my friend who has been helping me work on it. After getting into the minutia, I think I've deciphered my main concerns with regards to the rust: 1. Body. Just about everything above the side molding is in...

    Frame Rust 100 series

Cool, it looks like it's had some maintenance done then, that would make me confident. If you can handle the corrosion, it should be reasonably solid. I'd check into whether the CVs are aftermarket or Toyota, the aftermarket units tend to crap the bed early. Otherwise, take a look at that list...

Aux switches. What to look at (SPOD, ARB LINX or Switch Pros)

There's numerous people on here and Mud that say the same. I'm still not sure. We'll see how the next couple of months of work goes. It may clean up fairly well and make me feel okay about it. It might not. I'm not making a decision one way or the other for now. I'll definitely have a better...

Aux switches. What to look at (SPOD, ARB LINX or Switch Pros)

Thanks, I need it! It's been a bit of a nightmare the last couple weeks. Hopefully I can get it cleared up within a couple months.

Aux switches. What to look at (SPOD, ARB LINX or Switch Pros)

Between all of them, I'd go with the Switch Pro route. sPOD is neat, but for simple functionality the Switch Pro is a better bet. The basic architecture is the same, but with the Switch Pro you're not getting another touch screen with the possibility of parasitic drain. It's a mechanical switch...

2006 Frontier LE - "First Truck"

StarliteRambler makes a great point, you will want to look into the SMOD and see if that's something that has been addressed. As old as it is, I'll bet it has, but it's good to be sure. You can always bypass the radiator and throw a transmission cooler fan on it if you don't know for sure.

    Frame Rust 100 series

I don't think there's a comprehensive list out there, and it's quite dependent on the state of the donor chassis. If it's a rolling chassis, you're going to have all the suspension stuff, diffs, etc. attached to the chassis. If it was me, I'd get the rolling chassis and do a bunch of work myself...

Another 100 series, my first Toyota

Whoa! And I thought my rust repair project was a big one. Best of luck, it looks like the rest of the rig is a great starting point for a fun build.

2006 Frontier LE - "First Truck"

Cool start to your build! These trucks are great, just treat it right and they basically go forever. Reminds me an awful lot of the one I had. I like the storage platform, that looks clean. Be fun to watch it develop!

Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

You make a solid argument. I should clarify by saying that my summer adventure season is completely shot through by this body work problem, as the truck is apart and really can't be used for the time being, so regardless of the situation I will start fixing it soon. I likely wouldn't be...

Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

Hey guys, sorry for the gap in updates. Things got a little crazy for a while there. I'll have to catch everyone up on the full posts later, but a brief synopsis for now: The Cruiser is back on it's wheels and driving. All of the mechanical work went off without any troubles and the updates...

Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

Hey guys, sorry for the late responses! Thanks! I'm astonished by how clean all the oils and fluids are. It looks like the mechanicals are all in exceptional shape. It's kind of a one-coat deal that is supposed to chemically treat the rust to ensure that it no longer spreads and strengthens...

Okay, the wife has decided she wants to keep the name Claire open for any future children. Any truck name suggestions?

Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

After cleaning up the front and starting to work our way back, we applied a few coats of Rust-Oleum rust reformer to the front suspension and allowed that to dry. Now it was starting to look like something worth working on. In our inspection of the passenger side front sway bar mount, it...
