I bought this recently as a project truck and have realized I don't have the time to wrench on it until after winter. Hoping to use the money toward another 3rd Gen 4R that needs less work.
This one would make a good cheap platform if you have the time. I test drove it about 30 miles and then...
I don't plan to carry water there. Just 20L fuel and a Trasharoo or similar. I've looked at a few of the swing out kits and that may be a decent option as well. Thanks for the info.
I have seen some pictures of the CBI carrier but don't see anywhere to buy it and their website doesn't play well with my ISP.
The Wilco looks nice, but for about $100 more I could buy a full bumper with tire swing gate built specifically for my vehicle.
I think I've decided to just go the...
Yeah, I knew about the OME squeaking when I installed them. I did a few tricks I found on TNX to put galvanized spacers between the leafs and some heavy duty shrink wrap around the leaf retainers. My squeaking is all in the bushings, I think. I didn't use the recommended grease on installation...
Ok, basic needs are to carry a 5gal jerry can and some type of trash bag/bin outside of the vehicle but not on the roof. The vehicle is a daily driver and a full blown rear bumper/tire/trasharoo/etc is more than I want to deal with when I just need to open the lift gate to put a stroller in the...
Spent a few days with the family on the northeast side of Michigan's lower peninsula last weekend. Old Man Emu leaf springs are squeaking like crazy. Going to have to regrease the bushings soon. Also going to try a coating of fluid film on the frame this winter.
Been a busy year with work and a new baby at home, but I was able to escape for a few days of exploring Michigan's Upper Penninsula. We covered a lot of ground off road, the UP is full of trails and seasonal roads. My goals were to see some sites I haven't been to before, to camp on the shores...

Are you saying a boxier front end of the trailer is more efficient?
I know we drive lot of heavy and boxy trucks, I'm not trying to nitpick MPG's. I'm planning on building a trailer so I can do either template and I'm wondering how much, if any, it matters. I might also tow it with our 4cyl...
I'm curious if the rounded shape of a traditional teardrop makes any difference in MPG's vs some of the newer boxier style "teardrops."
Does the trailer roof line being slightly above the vehicle roof line make any difference, or does the tow vehicle create enough of a draft space for it not...
How many miles on the EHT brake setup? I am going to need new brakes sooner than later and I'm curious if you're still liking them. Mine are still quiet and smooth, but the extra weight from my mods has definitely affected my stopping distance.
