They are custom made King Springs - as my truck weighs 8tons, I needed stiffer springs for the rear - my rear axle is around 4.5tons, so I had some made to give me the right ride height at full load.

That's a great display, I think I will have to learn to program the Arduino systems. Was thinking of adding a full computer system, as the overhead console screen can take a VGA input. Just a bit of an update on the truck. Managed to break the bearings on the portal axle - dropped it...

    How Far Can You Go?

With a usable 350lt in the two tanks, we can get on average 1600km on dirt roads, 2000km on tar roads, and 1200km off road ( Canning stock route type of off road :) ) We can also carry another 100lt in jerry cans down in various storage compartments ( if we move stuff around) and if...

Do MRAP aluminium 10 bolt wheels fit on a 10 lug SBU? Any issues?

If you buy wheels from Ben at Mog Central he supplies the OEM longer wheelstuds needed.

The temperature monitor works great. This was after our first hour of driving Portal temps seemed very stable. It seems that even the direction of the wind affects the portal temperature. We had been driving at 95 Kph for about 40 mins with a strong cross wind. I could not figure out why...

I wanted to do an Ardunio version as well, but then worked out the cost of getting all the things necessary (over $250 over here for all the gear) , learning to program it, etc etc, and decided this would work out easier - I have a load of other things to do :) Eventual plan is to build my...

    Unimog hub temperatures

I think you are losing oil on the left side, I made up a breather to recirculate the oil - the big pipe runs up to the top of the portal, and is attached to the OEM breather - drilled a hole in the big pipe and soldered the little pipe into the side of it. I'll get a photo of what I made...

    Unimog hub temperatures

I check on the rear of the portal box and the centre hub with a thermal heat gun. On mine it is similar. Every time I stop on a long run, I walk around and touch the centre hubs, the fronts are always cool, only on occasion are the rears hot enough almost burn my fingers That is usually...

    Unimog hub temperatures

That is really hot, my front ones seldom get over 50 Deg C, the rear ones can get to 85-90 Deg C after a long run on the highway. Hottest I have seen the fronts was 75 Deg C and that was when it was 48 Deg C ambient temp.

Decided to fit a new gauge to monitor the portal temperatures. Took quite a bit of wiring and securing all the sensors, but it seems pretty good. It can trigger alarms and relays, but for the moment I'll just use it as a gauge. I used epoxy glue to stick on the sensors on each of the...

The four bolt block compressor flows about as much as the air cooler belt compressor, but they are only 8 bar units. Both motors I had have engine block compressors, and I had a spare belt driven one, but decided not to fit it, went with two ARB twin motor air compressors as back-up instead...

Pulling over onto the shoulder - one thing we hate doing.

Good new is that they are back on the road again - They also realised that leaving the truck upside down would be a problem, so they pulled the injectors and turned it over to get the oil out. Overall, not that much damage.

Pulling over onto the shoulder - one thing we hate doing.

I will keep an eye on their blog, and hopefully they get it upright and back on their adventure again.
