    JB Owners Question

I had the same problem with my CVT Mt. Baker hard clam shell (equivalent purpose) strap, so when it finally sun rotted & broke, I installed a longer strap and now I just tie it to the roof rack. Problem solved. I like the bungee cord solution, too.

    My Journey

Curious as to what mountain you're on. I live in Eastern Oregon and just recently browsed through your "My Journeys" thread. Some good photos and interesting dialog. Also interesting are your travels outside the USA. I got interested seeing the evolution of your travel vehicles and living...

    Rhino-Rack BatWing Review/Write Up

This has happened with at least 1 Alu Cab & that is documented in this thread and post #524 on page 35, you can see the results. Basically the arms bend - you're not going to break the hinges on this awning without ripping the whole awning off your rig. So in a case like this, you replace the...

Traversing difficult terrain with a roof top tent

While I agree with you on some of this, there is no denying the 100 + pounds above the roof is a serious consideration when attempting off camber routes off road. And NO reason to take it lightly! To say " it may not have as much of a negative effect as you might think" is a prescription for...

    Anti-condensation mat?

I don't have the condensation problem. As before stated, my RTT is a fiberglass hard shell, not that I'm exempt from it, but I think it's easier and more effective to manage. I guess I would say, as easy as it is to try and impliment, hopefully a tent owner that has the condensation problem will...

    Anti-condensation mat?

Well then it's "dead air space insulation", NOT air flow. It is nothing new. This form of insulation, or understanding it's concept, has been around for years. If you do some research into it, adding a foil layer, like I had previously suggested, would not only increase the insulation 'R' value...

    Anti-condensation mat?

Please tell us what in a RTT acts as the "Vapor Barrier"? I don't think this is a good model of the mattress & tent floor situation. There's always some moisture in the air. It condenses on a cold surface. The trick IMHO, is to only let the moisture laden air contact a cold surface where there...

    Anti-condensation mat?

You know, I've been kicking this around and am realizing that if you could insulate the mattress from the floor in such a way to prevent it warming the floor, that might work to at least reduce the condensation, if not eliminate it. It's the difference in temperature that causes the condensation...

Another RTT mattress question - 5" memory foam?

One thing to keep in mind with memory foam - it gets much firmer (harder) in cold temperatures. It'll soften up slightly when your body warms it up. I have a hard shell RTT so I can't help you with the folding concerns. But, it seems to me that opening and closing the tent in the cold would be...

    Anti-condensation mat?

Do you have an aluminum floor in your RTT? If so, this may be why you're seeing more condensation under your mattress. My hard shell CVT has a fiberglass floor, plus I usually sleep in a sleeping bag which keeps heat next to me and doesn't transfer much to the floor of the tent. I ventilate with...

Traversing difficult terrain with a roof top tent

Didn't mean any disrespect. I think both videos show how easy it is to roll over when one doesn't keep their wits about them. And even then - top heavy, or hauling with sizeable load on top, means you got to watch things even closer. But, I think it would be wise to avoid extreme trails &/or...

Traversing difficult terrain with a roof top tent

Inclinometers are bling for passengers. As someone said already, if you're watching it - you're not watching the trail. Reactions are everything and they have to be quick, decisive and correct. In these 2 videos, 2 very different situations, but both had inexperienced drivers - well, no one...

    Replacement awning poles

Are the poles broken or did you not use the tethers to secure the poles? Unless it was a bad storm with heavy rain & wind, the awning shouldn't have come down from some rain and wind, if it was setup properly. Since you haven't posted a source or brand of awning, it's probably best to check with...

need help setting up roof top tent

This thing is more for protecting your vehicle (shade) or if you had a convertible or maybe a pickup, IMHO. That's the only use I could see it being of much value camping. And as much as the the guy demo-ing it claimed it was not affected by wind after being tied down.......lol.....guess again...

Steel channel U fittings to mount RTT

Why aren't you using the traditional RTT mounting plate system? They work on round or square bars - actually better on square bars. You can fab the plates yourself out of scrap metal and get the carriage bolts and nuts at most hardware stores. Others have given you ideas for rubber spacers. My...

    Storing wet awning

The guy in the video kinda struck me as - I'm trying to say this in a nice way - prejudice to his understanding of mold/mildew - not open minded. Why was he so obsessed with the stain? With just a little bit of research, I learned a few useful tips. Mold/mildew can take hold within a couple...

Alu-cab awning concern, looking for some insight based on my purchase

Alu-cab awning concern, looking for some insight based on my purchase

This is an insult and really unnecessary, IMO, because it makes anyone that speaks up, look like the bad guy.....the complainer....the whiner. Why wasn't this information/webpage available when the products were 1st available to be purchased? For example: In the awning bag install, the rivets...
