    O'erlanderwagen build

That's so strange. My G550 only needs a flathead screwdriver to take the spare tire cap off. I like how it looks so far, particularly the meaty tires and lack of running boards.

    Grape Solar

Where did you run the wires from the panel to inside the Rover? I looked through your pictures and I couldn't find anything that stood out to me. My best guess is that you ran them to the back of the rack and then maybe inside, but from where?

    Custom TJ Scrambler

My friend has built a custom TJ pickup. He lengthened the frame on both sides of the rear axles, about 17 inches if memory serves correctly, to accommodate the bed. The tire swings away and it is running on some monster tires right now. The top is removable and was modified to pickup size. I...

Cooper Discoverer Writing Contest Grand Prize Qualifying Trip Suggestion Thread

Since Cape Lookout is listed, what about visiting Portsmouth Island? It's very remote and pretty close, geologically speaking, from the lighthouse.

LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

Yes, when you combine powers with some aggressive bumper and wheel arch modifications, they will fit okay. I have just been super curious to know how pages like http://www.johnsonrods.com/johnson_rods_2_004.htm just say "Johnson Rods Required" and no other mention of what else needs to be done...

LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

That's the result that I expect now that I have really looked and seen what is under the wheel well.

LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

Is anyone running a 275/65/R18 STT Pro? I went to the tire shop today to get some mounted, and while I have plenty of vertical clearance from the Proud Rhino lift, the horizontal clearance looks pretty troubling. It looks like it is going to rub the upper A-arm pretty severely at highway...

    Best Valentine's Day Excursion

My wife has all of the action photos and video still on her camera. When she pulls them off the camera and processes them, I will post the vids to the facetube or somewhere similar.

Range Rover tire and wheel fitment (FFRR)

I have been curious about this for quite some time, now. How do you get any 20-inch all terrain tire onto a Range Rover with the least amount of modifications. I just found a thread on the Range Rover forum about just such a topic...

    Best Valentine's Day Excursion

So my wife has been in Yoga teacher training in Asheville, NC. I went to go see her on one of her two days off during the school. I got to meet her fellow yoga students and we went out and generally had a good time drinking too much and playing inappropriate bar games. At about 10 or 11 Friday...

AventureBuddies' 2006 Ram 3500 expedition build - XP Camper V1

That's a nice looking truck, good luck in your build. I am curious to see how your wheel/tire conversion works out.

    Passenger capacity

Thanks everyone, this is super helpful!

    Passenger capacity

I have, perhaps, a silly question. What would the maximum safe passenger capacity be in a single cab configuration rig with a camper box on the back, something like an Earth Cruiser? Are there provisions for seat belts in the camper box? Is that safe? I ask because it seems like an attractive...

Does anyone use the AMG for overlanding?

What size are those Goodyear Wrangler tires? One of the biggest concerns I have with the AMG is the brake size, which limits your wheel selection, which in turn restricts your tire selection. Are you using LT-rated tires?

    Dude. +1 for everything. Impressive.

That is good work, thanks for everyone's input.

Does anyone use the AMG for overlanding?

I like your style already. I test drove a brand new G63 and it was pretty epic. I really, really enjoyed the power that it had. I don't need it, but boy do I like it. Based on my prior test drives, I am going to guess that the G550 relates to the G63 much in the same way that the LR4 relates to...

Does anyone use the AMG for overlanding?

That is pretty much how you deal with low-octane fuel in forced induction engines these days. The knock sensor will more or less mitigate any damage that could occur, just don't thrash it. I'm okay with that.

    Overland Vehicle Notes

So I have test drove all of the vehicles on my list and I am pretty sure I know what to do now. The Rovers are amazing vehicles, particularly the supercharged full-fat Range Rover. The only thing nicer than it is hand-made in Italy. The LR4 is super-utilitarian and the third row of seats is...
