I can tell you from experience that if you do not intend to do the work yourself on a M-416 it will be a money pit. If you have some metal working skills and have a local source for materials you will come out much cheaper by scratch building. It you haven't seen the thread my brother updates...
I think you could do a lot with that trailer. Is that the tow vehicle (full size PU)? I ask this because of weight, no issue with full size pickup but might be with jeep. Lots of lockable storage. Good price?
Thank you Andy. We had a great time out at CFW, great people great food! As far as the cross members yes there will be two installed, I leave them out until the axle is installed with the springs and shocks. It's just easier to setup the shocks with the cross members out.
I installed my CVT Mt. Rainier yesterday. I currently have 4 x 25lbs struts. The rack requires a bit more assistance to elevate than the Tepui Kukenam. So I think I will increase to 4 x50lbs. The Mt Rainier and the Gran Sabana are about the same weight so you should be good with 4 x 50lbs.
I currently have a Tepui Kukenam RTT on my rig and went with 4 x 25lbs struts. It works great, just pull the pins and give it a little push. No issue for my wife and I. However I just purchased CVT's Mt. Rainier and will be installing it this weekend. I suspect I will need to go up to 4 x...
I went with these: SJ-100 Stabilizer Jack from Southwest Trailer out of Dallas, TX. I only paid $9.45 each plus shipping. Had to cut base off and add 1x1 tubing. You can see it on thread attached to my profile.
The two different latches I found on amazon. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DIDB686/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and (http://www.amazon.com/Buyers-Products-8000SSL-Stainless-Locking/dp/B0000AXBOG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=0AR2SHJKDMPWNPJZ7ASF)
Mark thanks. I use a hydraulic punch driver from Harbor Freight.( http://www.harborfreight.com/hydraulic-punch-driver-kit-96718.html) and a dimple die from amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SBTQG0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
Brian, I'm in Augusta ga and have two tires/rims for a m416. I don't want them nor do I want any money for them. If your In the area they are yours.. Here is the thread to my brother and my builds http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/100534-M416-trailer-build-my-brother-and-I
As my brother said yes changes are in the works for Gen 3. I'm going with 18 GA for the top and 3/4 " square tube for the ribs instead of 1" square tube. Also on Gen 2 I went with a split top (this was for the purpose of housing the elect package), Gen 3 will have only one top but cover the same...
What size struts are you using? With the RTT and the steal roof rack I used two 250lbs struts (its a little over kill but wanted to make sure the lid would raise if the roof rack was loaded). As soon as the latch is pulled the top opens with just a nudge. McMaster's has from 25lbs to 250lbs...
These are the latches I used: "Dee Zee DZTBLATCH1 Tool Box Latch". Give me a few days to get the pics, Ill need to get my buddy to take them. I went with these because it gives a real clean look. You can source them from AMAZON.
