Phantom Canyon and Shelf Road (Colorado)

Pretty much my back yard! Fun drive, that one and Gold Camp / Old Stage Road from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek are fun, with detours up Almagre Mountain and a few other spots. Unfortunately there are always j@cka$$es out there ripping down the roads - have had many a...

    Running 33’s on a D5

A little less than an inch narrower, yeah. I wanted a taller aspect sidewall, and Goodyear is making both the Wrangler AT Adventure with Kevlar and the DuraTrac for the Defender in that size. I'm running the AT Adventure, which performs great in everything but deep mud and is a good all-around...

    Running 33’s on a D5

I ran 275/55-20 and currently run 255/60-20 with no issues, lots of space. I have seen someone on the disco5.co.uk forum who runs 275/65-20 (34.1" OD according to tiresize.com/calculator with a Lucky 8 2" lift rod.

    This truck is unbelievable good

Yes, but only one of the two things could do those trails off the lot and make it back home in one piece. One of them is even smart enough to do it autonomously after multiple "hold my beer and watch this" sessions.

    This truck is unbelievable good

I wholeheartedly agree that the L462 D5 is super-capable, especially with the Td6 engine in low range. Have never needed the rear locker with mine - even with three wheels on ice and the fourth in a hole, the TR2 system took a few seconds to figure it out, with a little rocking it freed itself...

Why the rods *and* the subframe lift? Doesn't make any sense to me. Just because you can doesn't mean you should....

Should be fairly quick on 5G as long as you're not parked right next to an NFL stadium on game day or something...it's my D5's 3G connection that takes forever for my SOTA updates to download. I tell it to pause until I pull into my garage and it connects to wifi. Or I turn on my phone's...

Yeah just wait until Starlink is available everywhere. You'll be weaving your way through overland caravans streaming Bridgerton around the campfire on the Skeleton Coast.

If they're lowering the entire drivetrain then I don't see how $5,000 is going to cover that - that's a significant amount of re-engineering and parts adding/swapping. My guess is maybe a knuckle extender for the rear driveshaft to prevent binding or excess wear on the diff or other geometry...

Pretty sure they attach to the structural part of the unibody where the winch tray does. Ozzie roo bars are for pushing roos and brush aside, not bashing things. Even "bull bars" on ranch trucks are made for pushing, not bashing. Nothing, not even an ARB bumper is going to mitigate damage from a...

Agreed - especially when you know, by building one vehicle that actually comes loaded, but is software-locked down to some lower specification, that their profit margins are going way up even on the vehicles they have locked down to some entry-level spec by virtue of the fact their production...

Older models didn't incorporate code signing. A bunch of legislation recently has supported the argument by automakers that software features are IP and thus not covered under any "right to repair" laws in the same way that, say, a transmission or a differential can be rebuilt or modified by an...

The points regarding the dealer reflashing CCFs when it detects a VIN mismatch with enabled features should be emphasized. JLR will absolutely go after this "Mo" jabroney for theft of intellectual property, especially since the CCFs are code-signed and he would need a valid key from the factory...
