So somehow I managed but convince the CFO (missus) that we needed another ambo. So I just bought a 4WD one with only 39000 miles.
Some assembly required.
I had the stainless lines for the transmission cooler wear through the brake lines on the previous rig. Talk about a picker moment [emoji33]
These will be either covered in insulation (hot) or split tubing to reduce the risks to other bits of the vehicle and provide some insulation.
Bugger. But this was a 5 day sprint so I will keep it in mind for next run up through there. Tequila and a plasma cutter are on the agenda [emoji1][emoji33]
Oh and we had our first major system failure. The airhorns stopped working. I had to contend with the LA traffic without the most essential defence weapon.
So we just took the truck for a little drive. Pleased to say the latest modification worked wonderfully. The initial couple of caps and the nut I used for testing are still there along with a few hitchhikers we managed to pickup despite the cold conditions.
Truck ran OK except coming up out...
I actually bought a Sienna seat to put in place of the attendants chair. The idea was to be able to either use it as a recliner or spin it around and use it as an office chair.
But when I removed the attendants chair She Who Must Be Obeyed decided she liked the open area. Now we carry a couple...
I didn’t use the activator and only had brake cleaner as the primer but it was onto freshly ground aluminum. I have 60 cell panels on my trucks (just because that’s what would fit) and I only used corners. If I had the 72 cell panels I may of used the side supports as well on the long side (I...
I’m not sure about the cold but I used Sika 252 on the 3 Freightliners with the ABS corners. No screws at all and no issues in the AZ heat and UV. Whichever way you go I would suggest you cover them with the stuff they seal the rubber RV roofs with ( names escapes me at the moment. It’s a bugger...
Thanks for the input guys. In the end I took the easy way out and plumbed everything with braided faucet hoses. All hoses are 1/2 MIP and I figured that it would be easier in the long run to just carry a couple of spare hoses. It also helped that the total run is only ably 10’.
Some of the key...
At 86” you could easily fit a set of Axletech 4000 narrow axles and run 20” MRAP wheels. No special rims needed, CTIS capable, air lockers, disk brakes and high speed planetary.
Just food for thought [emoji1]
Also remember to give the centramatics time to settle when you start out. Sometimes it happens quicker than others. But should be fine after a few miles. I never ran them in the cold so it should be interesting to hear how they go in cold weather.
Are the inserts in your wheels manufactured by...
WARNING. Before you use starting fluid make sure you do not have a grid heater. (I will attach a photo of mine when I get out to the truck)
You could also use a propane based aerosol such as WD40 (if it is still propane). Not as efficient or rough on the engine as ether and a whole lot safer...
Also if you know anyone in the aviation industry there is a film they put on the leading edges of helicopter blades. I don’t have the details anymore but the sample I had was basically indestructible and no impact on visibility.
And can I suggest that you swap the 20 ton jack for an air powered one. It has a manual handle as well and since you have onboard air it makes it easier and safer to use. (I am a lazy bugger along with being tight and I spent the extra money to get one)...
The axletechs drive all the time (I suppose you could pull the intermediate gears from the planetary if absolutely needed). So mileage will suffer when you consider extra axle, bigger tires and the transfer case. The transfer case is AWD as well.
But that part of the build will not be going...
Finally a few minutes to work on the truck again. Got one of the high priority items crossed off the list.
With my record I will take the wins when I can. I managed to do 3 holes without breaking a drill tap. [emoji33]
