    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Again, as I and others have pointed out, LR is not and has never been an entry-level brand. It's an aspirational brand. When you're a starving college graduate trying to make it in the world, if you are going to buy an off-road rig you're going to buy a 10-year old Jeep or Toyota for a couple...

OK, so you could negotiate down to ~$30,000 maybe at the end of the year depending on what incentives were on offer at the time. Then you add tax and title back on and you're back to $35,000+ depending on where you live. A Wrangler could be had for $17K and the bulletproof Cherokee XJ with the...

The Kia had to be modded (thanks to Jeep for exposing that minor little detail), and the Hyundai got stuck in the sand at a press event. But, I will agree that soft-roaders like Subarus are all 90%+ of "outdoorsy" people need to get to the trailhead or glamping spot. I took my old manual AWD...

As one of the vocal people on one side of the issue, here's my take. Much like older "analog" sports cars where the connection to the road is more visceral, more tactile, there is pleasure in being able to master the machine in the absence of any kind of aid - traction control, launch control...

    Wrecked

First, I'm glad you're OK. Collisions are always nerve-wracking affairs. Also glad that it seems cool heads prevailed in the immediate aftermath. That's what I worry about most these days. Since you appear to be a servicemember, if you have USAA, they're generally pretty reasonable...

I believe they'll start taking orders in Summer-ish, at least according to my dealer. It's a MY 2020 vehicle, so that may mean late 2019 roll-out to the first lucky few in the UK with US deliveries starting shortly after. My dealer has had at least one regular customer with a deposit down for...

    So... what do we think?

They have been quietly, occasionally polling audiences through invite-only owner focus groups.

    Discovery 5 New Video!!!!

Do you have video of it actually *driving* off-road or just pictures? Let's see it in action with the new meats.

    Open Carry in Wilderness Areas

It's my home defense weapon (3" cylinder), where it works very well - quicker to handle than a shotgun, easier to secure with wee ones running around, and better spread at close range. I load it with four 000-Buck and one .45 Colt at home. I'll occasionally carry it in deep black bear/mountain...

    Open Carry in Wilderness Areas

I'll have to try one out. Chest carry is great for vehicles too - if you're off-roading it's not convenient to have a giant hunk of iron on your thigh digging in when you're bracing against the transmission hump or door, but in that case I have an under-dash holster like Gum Creek's.

    Open Carry in Wilderness Areas

I think the logic may be that you don't want two different service pistols in wide circulation while in combat in several different theaters at once, having to run two different curricula to qualify all the traditionally non direct-action people when they go out the door (e.g., US Air Force guys...

    Open Carry in Wilderness Areas

Backpacking: thigh rig if you're carrying a large-caliber revolver, e.g., a Judge or a Super Redhawk, is preferable to me. I haven't found a good holster that works with my pack for a large pistol - it sits too high and the draw is awkward with a fully loaded backpack interfering with my...

"Most capable." Land Rover made that claim initially, (and here, probably the same press event) based on testing and demonstration, but they are now reserving that tagline for the upcoming new Defender, which has its own reputation to...er, defend. Sure, they gotta sell cars and you wouldn't...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

yeah, I'm saying I wouldn't intentionally leave my vehicle with the doors open in over 36 inches of water, because I don't want it to end up with evidence that it was in a "flood" such as having to replace carpet and clean silt out of seat rails and such, should I ever decide to sell or trade...

Like I said the vehicle floats at deeper wading depths - this is from Land Rover, as is the submersion testing they did. How deep can it go? I don't know. If smartphones can be built to withstand submersion at that depth for at least 30 minutes (IP68 guarantees submersion up to 1.5m for 30...

You "don't recall" a D5 being able to do one because there is no "Camel event" any more. The D5 is certified to ford 900mm which is 35.4" it can go deeper, but like most SUVs with a giant air pocket in the back end, the rear end will float unless you remove the underbody spare tire and/or...

It would also not be road legal in the United States or Europe, and thus would not exist any more - Land Rover stopped selling them in the US in 1997 because they didn't want to spend the money to fit them with mandatory airbags. Hell, the Wrangler is barely road legal in the EU due to...

So you take care of your battery just like you take care of the rest of the vehicle, any vehicle, that goes beyond the affordable reach of a tow truck. You minimize the risk of a breakdown, you work on your skills, and you pray. Same as our grandfathers did. And as an added benefit, Lucas...

Yep, I've seen the difference too, I've been driving off road for 20+ years and I learned on the "old stuff." I've driven Subarus over rockslides with rocks as big as basketballs...without damage. I've driven Jeeps and HMWWV's and Expeditions and Audis.... You can make almost anything work...
