    Jeep on long trips.....

I had a jku rubi. 6speed manual with newere engine. Standard highway driving range was about 300 miles. It was comfortable. A little loud, but it just depends on your reference. I drove once a week from MI to KY (384mi). Never an issue, crept the mpg. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

JKU as a family overland vehicle

I had a 2012 jku Rubi with a manual trans. I loved driving a jeep and having a manual trans (not debating manual or auto). I also have 3 kids. Twins were 6, little one was 4. Getting three car seats, or a combination of car seat and booster three across in the rear seat was not fun...

I had to pass guys. Your comments just re-inforced my gut feel anyway. I'm generally risk-averse and this had risk written all over it. I went back to look at it/drive it to confirm and found a few more things that didn't sit well with me. I don't have the time to tear-down, sell un-needed...

    LR3 Packed Pics

Nwoods, this is what I was hoping to find. thanks. you're right about the spare though... Very limiting if inside. I assume you use the night-vision cases for your camera equipment? I picked some up at our local army-surplus for $10 each. Still trying to figure out how to use them best...

    LR3 Packed Pics

Can anyone post a few pics of a fully packed LR3/LR4? I'm interested in how you pack up for a long trip benind the second row. Wife, 3 kids... lots of luggage. We currently have an older suburban that's on its last leg. Considering LR as the new mule. Thanks.

Terranist, I agree with you, partially. The hardware work that was done seems to be done well. The owner is works in a machinist tool-shop and has access to tools/lifts etc to make hardware installation correct. The wiring is where my concern is, in addition to the overall age/reliability...

    Superu Phase II

Flat black paint will be very warm. There is much more surface area with flat black, than with gloss black. I say don't go flat black, but its not my car :)

Chili, the burb is a 1990 half ton with an '87 6.2 diesel with an A-team turbo. This is the 3rd engine in it from what I've been told. Orginial 350, then a built 408, then the diesel. It has a 700R4, and a spare is being provided. I'm not a big fan of this "automatic transmission" business...

09 gmc 1500 air bags being installed

Is there a way not to "stack" your rack on the rails? Can you mount them under so the package height is a bit lower? I like it overall, just seems a bit high.

Have you ever taken a trail-only rig and transformed it into a overland/expo style vehicle? Essentially taking a "wild to mild" approach? I have an opportunity to buy a heavily modified suburban with a 6.2 diesel, full turbo setup... Has 6" lift, 20"wheels with 37" tires, built bumper, 12K...

Suburban vs 99 f250? new here

What are your family needs for camping? Are you going to be sleeping in/with the truck or tent camping? Do you need access to gear while on the road? I have a '99 suburban 1/2 ton. It doubles as my tow vehicle and a camping rig, not a daily driver. I have a wife, and 3 kids, so my needs...

    95 RRC LWB question

The price doesn't seem bad. All of the ones I've looked at had corrosion issues on the rear crossmember and frame outriggers, in addition to tailgate rust.

    Overlanding with k-9 companions.

My pups like to be in the tent with us and the kids. If you chose to follow this path, make sure that: - the floor of the tent is reinforced (like an extra pad or carpet) - keep the claws to a minimum (short) Our first trip without these considerations caused the tent to get multiple...

    Show Off Your KID MODS!

i used to sleep on the shelf under the rear windshield in my dad's old Skoda, back in the day. I use my laptop as the DVD player in the Burb. Twins are 4yrs old, and little one is 15mo. Lot's of toys within reach, drinks within reach...leading to pit stops, but its all good.

Overland/Camping Vehicle for Family of 6

suburban We are in the same boat... Me, wifey, 4yr old twins, and a 1 yr old. Throw in two dogs, gear, we needed space. I looked at LWB Range Rover Classics, but couldn't get the seating arrangement to work with the child seats. Plus, with dogs, there was no room. I explored the Ford range...

Jean-Seb's 1999 GMC Yukon Build Thread

Roof rack attachment How did you attach the rack to the roof? It looks like you attached it directly to the factory side rails, right? Of what I've read, the max stock capacity of that rack is 200lbs. I don't know if this is purely due to the stock flimsy cross-bars, or the way the rack is...

Coast 2 Coast 2 Coast, an exercise of reflection

You know, I live in Michigan. As difficult as things are in Michigan, this really emphasize one of the critical positives. Shamefully I've never been to the UP. However, reviewing the pics is excellent motivation. I love it.
