I too, doubt a space saver spare would last very long off-road. You can get a tire winch from and stick it underneath. I did that with both my M-416 and Scout trailers and never had clearance issues.

I have the Uniden CMX760 . I like the compactness and with a tuned antenna works great. Trucker have a lot of room in their cabs so they can run a larger chassis radios . The larger radios are more adept to performance modifications.
