Open Differentials vs. Traction Control vs. Lockers

The Yukon Griz will be my next front locker. (new truck) You can remove a couple of the Detroit Soft locker parts for front use. It won't be as soft then, but it'll unlock easier. I forget which parts exactly. Front Detroit or Yukon Griz, and rear selectable, is all the rage, over here.

    35" or 37" tires on a DD F350 or Ram 3500

Sheesh. How much cv angle can an f150 handle?

    Increasing Power Wagon payload

Actually, I'd argue that they do. At least some aftermarket parts companies do. When the PW locker just flashes a fault light at you when you need it..... Doing it all custom, gives you a chance to do a better job than the engineers are allowed to. The PW just isn't meant for campers at...

    Increasing Power Wagon payload

Front locker is cheap and easy, maybe $1200 while you sip coffee from a cup for 3 hours. Radius arms are $1000-2000 and pretty much available with any decent suspension kit. You can build a stock truck way beyond the capability of a stock pw, have a decent GVWR sticker, and maybe even for the...

    Increasing Power Wagon payload

You can't upgrade the sticker. If being legal is important, get the stock 2500/3500. The Power Wagon has nothing that you can't add aftermarket to the other HD Dodges or Fords. Consider the ala cart route. You also can get mechanical lockers and such that way.

    2019 Ford Ranger Taking Orders

In a pinch loosen all of the lugs plenty except for two, set those barely loose, then drive forward steering back and forth to break them loose. But I keep a plastic dead blow hammer under the back seat. In the city, loosen the lugs, then run over a parked Prius.

I do like, how people think that I spent $55 000 on the truck. Must be the expo look. Methods and jacks ain't expensive.

    Thinking about dropping the hi-lift

If you have a winch and plenty of spares, ditch it. I use mine as a winch and bead breaker. Weighs a ton less than a winch bumper and winch. But now that winch sealing isn't completely pathetic, I might reevaluate that. The Ford super duty bottle jacks have a ton of throw. $20. I have...

2WD in Snow - Need advice

Winch, tire chains, tire claws, shovel. Rear locker or Truetrac isn't going to help an Econoline on street tires. Been there, done that. Tape your winch controller to your shovel all coiled up. Can't winch without shoveling first, is a rule to live by. Even if it's just a few scoops.

Out with Ford V-10, in with the 7.3 gas engine.

The only thing I hate about the 6.2's is the noisy valve train. Putting the cam in the block should end that. (unless it's the injectors I'm hearing at idle)

    2019 Ford Ranger Taking Orders

I feel bad for the suckers stuck with a Platinum. Literally twice the price of a loaded Xl. For nothing. It's the same truck. Once you ruin the cheap leather, break all the chinese widgets, and scratch up the chrome, it's worse than the base model. For the price premium, I'd expect a...

    Tire time

There you go. That's the problem. If the slightly off toe, is toe in? Then I'd leave it alone. Any play in the joints will toe out the tires a hair. Going to zero, and you might have toe out when moving.

    Tire time

Outside edges are feathered? Normal wear for all trucks with heavy understeer. Every single truck in our fleet for the past 20 years does that. Rotate every single oil change, and slowing down in turns, are the only solutions. The problem is, if you don't chill out on hwy ramps, the rear...

Lucas Green Ag and Marine is my go to for hubs and joints. Lucas red and tacky for universals.

3/4 or 1 ton gas reliability

The front drive shaft on the Dodges spins in 2wd. Half of the diff always spins, eventually the rest of the diff catches up and the drive shaft spins. If it didn't, diff wear would be extreme. Lifters, cam phasers, VVT, etc. etc. aren't an issue on any of our trucks because we burn more...

2020 Ford F350 - XLT or Lariat / options guidance?

Soon. GM's new big engine made them get the 7.3's going early, I'll bet. Doesn't automatically make that the best engine choice though. Absolutely get 4.30 Elocker if available. Avoid adaptive steering. Hill Decent is part of Fx4, and works below 20 mph. The hill decent feature you...

I couldn't get past how small they are. Ex cabshort bed had a wheelbase the same as a Honda Accord parked next to it. Great news for people that like that.

Lightweight, 4 season, wet bath 1/2 ton camper clarification & questions.

Half tons suck, even with light campers. I'm going with a Capri because they're geared more towards us, skiers, and cowboys, and less towards RV slobs. https://capricamper.com/models/retreat/ My only reservation is that little campers are within $5000 of extremely plush travel trailers...
