Researching a motorcycle lift/carrier for my next OEV.

I'd consider having Earthroamer add room for the bike, inside. A simple rear pass through, and a ramp out the side. On trips without the bike, that space could be handy for all kinds of stuff.

Open Differentials vs. Traction Control vs. Lockers

When an auto locker becomes a ''low side finder'', the fault is your tires, not the locker. IME, Truetracs and Lsd's start doing the same thing shortly after lockers do. Add tire chains, studs, even tire claws to your kit. Generally, if I'm in 4wd the ''low side finder'' sliding of the truck...

Newbie with a Plan.. Advice Needed on Said Plan

Check out Capri. A bit more adventurous than larger campers, but very doable. No rear overhang. They're about the only camper that I can order custom, with no stove, fridge, microwave. I don't cook in campers ever. Sleep, shower, shave, is about all.

3/4 or 1 ton gas reliability

Should be able to find a 6.2l Ford for $20k easy peasy. They're all over Ohio as people trade up to Alumaduties. My 5.4l was only a few years older than the 6.2 trucks and was only worth a piddly $10k, tops, when I got rid of it due to rust. The GM 6.0 is reliable, a bit slow but ok. It's...

Stock Ram L/S VS Detroit TrueTrac

The Detroit will unlock in turns, even on throttle. Just don't spin the inside tire. Being a Dodge, I'd make a front freespin kit a priority. IIRC, Yukon might be the cheapest.

Stock Ram L/S VS Detroit TrueTrac

Wet asphalt? Detroit Locker in the rear has no effect on that, unless you have terrible tires and piss poor driving skills. Even then, quality tires go a long way in the rain. Driven correctly, with the right tires, a rear Detroit can be quite helpful. The outside tire gets to spend...

Stock Ram L/S VS Detroit TrueTrac

How worried are you, about the difference? If it's a significant amount, skip it, and get a locker.

    Ford 7.3L

Pack your intercooler with mud and run that test again. Oops, 87 octane... 3rd gear, full throttle, for 10 minutes. 110 degree heat. Idle 5 hours a day. I'll start to be impressed then. There's more to engine durability than your hp/tq figures. The 3.5 isn't remotely suitable for things the...

    Anyone Daily Drive Their Truck?

Downsize to a Capri, or FWC camper. No rear overhang types, for 1/2 ton trucks. A big Ford won't hardly know it's there. Daily driving a large camper, is absolutely not what I want to do. But the smaller ones are cake. Keep your weight way down.

Adding a rear seat to composite camper with shoulder harness intended for family to travel in in order to avoid a crew cab

If you waste the first few feet of the box, with a cage and seats, how is that better than a shorter box and a crew cab truck?

Newbie Question: how much wind does your hard side truck camper catch?

True. So true. But it's easy to fix on the solid axle trucks.

    Sexiest Jeep Ever??

That TJ Cruiser looks exactly like the parking lot at panera bread. Some hardcore wheeling and camping there.

    Offset and Backspacing??

On the 17's the Method NV HD or Raceline Defenders in 18x9" +18mm offset look great. I think your truck is similar. Fender flares will be needed for 35-37" tires. Price is no option. The Innov8 race wheels are awesome. "Custom Offsets'' has tons of different truck pics with different...

Adding a rear seat to composite camper with shoulder harness intended for family to travel in in order to avoid a crew cab

Seat belts go to the body, not frame. Frame bends, crumples, swings away, and then tightens the belt and cuts your kids in half. Not to mention that camper rattling will drive you crazy (like me). A roll over turns the camper box into a zillion flying splinters and razor blades, being...

Talk Me Out of an OBS as a budget overlanding rig!

The v10 didn't have any weird cam phasers IIRC. Turned out to be a decent crate engine as well. I've never had spark plug issues with the 10'. If I come across one that already had it's plugs changed, I skip that step.

    Sexiest Jeep Ever??

Cool. But it's effectively as big as a fullsize truck now. How much weight can a jeep handle up there anyway? Still, I'm withholding my judgement until after I see a mini FWC on one.

Interesting midsize truck comparison / test

This is why I shake my head in disgust when I see any truck with a camper, that sits lower in the rear of the truck. That failure of front drive, is also a warning. You can't stop for $%&! with the truck like that. In the rain and snow, it'll go straight to fighting the abs. Even level...

Repost: Diesel Is Making A Comeback

Austin Texas needs a new diet plan anyways. We should try this there first.

Repost: Diesel Is Making A Comeback

Ours are cng as well. The generator that runs the electric compressors for the fuel stations has no emissions controls as all. Big smokey. Guess that inrush current was too much for the local utility to handle, or too expensive.

I wonder, are the mass transit diesel buss's exempt from those emission standards?
