Just stumbled on the TheFitRV YT channel. Guy is amazing. He’s done everything that WGO should have considered after the first year of the EKKO was in production.
That’s been the biggest issue for me with the EKKO. I want nothing to do with propane. I would not get the genny and the propane is a problem as the rig uses it for HW and heat as well as the cooktop. There are remedies for these but one ends up with substantial changes to what was the OEM...
No disagreement on any of your points. the dual rear wheels is a major concern with regard to picking up a terrorist rock intent on our demise. It’s one of the items keeping me on the fence.
As to which way to go with WGO or Aeon It’s all about the floor plan. The Aeon doesn’t cut it for us...
The Aeon is certainly an excellent build. What catches my eye with the EKKO versus the Aeon is the floor plan. I think the WGO is way more functional for my use; the actual purchase price difference would easily allow the WGO to be built out to the same levels and attain similar suspension...
Haven’t seen any activity on this thread lately. Anyone with an Ekko care to share a status of their experience with us? As the owner of a fairly significantly modded Revel I would be interested in hearing about this sistership from WGO. (I don’t do FB so have no idea about their owner page as...
I’ve owned 4 slide-ins over the last 40 years and have always had a soft spot for the Alaskan (lived there for 15 years and at the time they were always out of my $$$ range). Your efforts at “saving” this unit and being the caretaker of it and the IH are truly the stuff or lore, awe and...
I don’t own a Transit (Sprinter) but I really like seeing new and original van parts for any model or make. This project looks like a winner and I suspect that it could give a whole ‘nother perspective when considering Fords vs. brand X.
Nicely written thread about your efforts. Once again proving its not necessarily about how much one spends to enjoy themselves! Keep us posted.
Cheers!
During my eight years in IL whenever we wanted some great camping we’d always head to what we referred to as out largest State park. Other’s might refer to it as Wisconsin. Head north for the great camping. Stay instate for some really good camping; west along the Mississippi at Palisades...
all it took in my household was camping with my Mrs and some wild bison roaming loose and a very cold night in the RTT with a honey bucket at the bottom of the ladder.
“sweetie, why don’t you call that nice RV salesman we spoke to at the show and get us that Revel you’ve been asking for…”.
Two...
since you have successfully pulled off the down-under look with the UTE bed have you considered a front bumper a’la an ARB bull bar look? (Can’t recall if you have posted on this subject). It may influence how you Solve the rear bumper challenge. Here’s one solution...
Ahh yes . . . . thanks for the memories of a quaint Baja fishing village auto shop and the use of their drill press..... :-) I don't recall if it was a metric or standard deep socket and what size (12mm? 14mm? or 1/2": or 9/16"??) that kept Frenchie from having to sleep "in" his Jeep...
I wanted something lighter than my hiking boots but still offered toe protection. Been very satisfied with these in a wide variety of non-strenuous use (light hiking, fishing, boating, camp use, etc)...
Miami, FL to Anchorage, AK in 1981 in a "new" FWD Pontiac Phoenix.... did I mention it was January.... with a new bride sitting beside me. Agree with everything you've written.... it's amazing what technology is available now. Unfortunate so many get caught up in the numbers/names efforts...
Echoing many others comments, one of the best threads of where strange leads to awesome. Very nicely executed trailer.
Looking forward to the Ramfalia being completed / documented for our selfish need for ‘portal porn!
Thanks for sharing all of this. :)
Sweet platform to start a van life project. Had me a Provan Tiger once upon a time and enjoyed the Astro platform. Alas it wasn’t four wheel drive and living in AK at the time was the deciding factor in keeping it.
not me but this was the unit.
