Samlex Inverter Install + Review - How To Video

For anyone thinking of grabbing a high end inverter for their vehicle, here is a review + install on the Samlex PST 1000w commercial grade, pure sine wave inverter. For anyone that knows Samlex, they make incredibly high quality equipment and this is the gear I run. Even though it's just an...

    '99 Tahoe - Expedition Build!

My next bit of work is fixing this Tactical Armor Group bumper....junk. I'm building a new mounting system b/c the original causes the bumper to sag horribly...all their mounting holes are grooved so it's not possible for the bumper to sit still for very long!!! (i.e. no centering hole. I'm...

That's Don's...it's a sharp truck rolling on 35's. Where in the Northeast are you? We're going back to Rausch Creek (where that photo was taken) in September and you're welcome to join. Here is his build thread: http://www.gmc4x4.com/topic/142-dons-yukon/

    '99 Tahoe - Expedition Build!

I'll put together a video of the install. But essentially the power & ground will go directly from the battery, run through the firewall and terminate directly on the inverter...which will be hidden inside the custom center console. With my 600w Samlex unit I didn't have a remote and bc of...

    '99 Tahoe - Expedition Build!

Some new toys arrived today!!! As you guys may remember, I used the Samlex 600w Pure Sine inverter on my trip. Well, I decided to upgrade to the commercial version of their Pure Sine inverter line and jump to 1000w. This inverter, from everything I have read, is an incredibly robust...

    '99 Tahoe - Expedition Build!

The more I dig into this IFS system, I agree, it would cost a ton of money to really beef it up. With that said, I still have some time with my IFS before I rip it out. It handles well and the strength has been fine for me...but I do wish I had the ability to lock it and articulation is limited.

D60 35 spline upgrade and 30 spline limitations.

Also to be fair, many guys can make a D60 survive some pretty tough stuff. Heck, I wheeled the Rubicon in my Tahoe with the IFS and a upgraded 14bsf....but i had to go painfully slow so I didn't break anything (mostly clearance issues). With 33's and if you're not hammering the heck out of the...

    '99 Tahoe - Expedition Build!

And I thought you would be one the guys to stick with IFS!! Swapping does make life a lot easier to four wheeling and I still consider it as an option on this Tahoe...even though I pumped a lot of hours and $$ into the IFS. What shocks are you running that your IFS is too soft?

Thanks guys, glad you like the video!! Riley - are you staying IFS or eventually sticking a solid axle under it?

I completely agree. For guys that lift so they can 4wheel their trucks more, that cross member is a disaster to deal with.

    '99 Tahoe - Expedition Build!

It's been awhile since I've updated the build thread!! Over the last two weeks I installed a reman AC Delco steering pump and a new Moog pitman arm...for some reason the Moog pitman arm I had on there was shot in about 20k miles; idler was ok. Also, the big improvement was.... Installed a set...

Transmission Breather Tube Extension & Relocation

I just realized this about the High Water Mark trip. How deep do you plan on going?

Transmission Breather Tube Extension & Relocation

Start at the transfer case (driver's side) and you will find a black hollow tube sitting on top of it. The tube routes near the top of the transmission (driver's side) and then up towards the back of the engine and terminates more towards the passenger side.

Transmission Breather Tube Extension & Relocation

That's the one...but the transmission also has a breather tube, it is however much shorter and does not come with the plastic vent; it's pretty close in proximity to the transfer case tube. Here's a video on the transmission breather tube so you know which one you are working with...

Transmission Breather Tube Extension & Relocation

The vent in the stock location can be tough to locate on our trucks for the transfer case!!! It's near the back of the engine and look for it from the passenger side...they tend to be easier to see on the passenger side vs driver. But it's on the back of the engine a few inches down from the top.

Transmission Breather Tube Extension & Relocation

Casey, it's just like the one in the video...too short for real water crossings. With the age of the breather tube and if you plan on keeping the truck for awhile, replace the whole thing and add in a breather vent. You can either head to the junkyard + Home Depot or their site sells a...

Transmission Breather Tube Extension & Relocation

I hear ya...I swamped my transmission and rear axle running through big mud puddles in Maine. $300 later my transmission is saved, but I still need to tear off the rear diff cover and change up the fluids.
