I saw a bit of info on here dating back to early '11 regarding this unit - for those that purchased, happy with the decision? Is there another route you would have gone?
I have a 220amp alt so the 500a continuous is really nice for me...plus i like the remote & manual switch.
Thanks!
Anyone using these radios? Opinions/recommendations?
The gentleman that ownes the local radio store recommended these for my first set of radios stating they were reliable, good quality and easy to use for beginners.
i would be using these for my across the US trip.
cranking your keys 2-3" is not the best idea as you will be more likely to bust your CV's due to their harsher angles. A really cheap way to lift the rig is with a body lift, but to make it look even half decent, you will need to fill the gaps. If this ends up being for your son, a body lift...
A few quick updates for everyone following.
Finished prepping and POR'ing the 14bsf - now I'm waiting for my Wagner severe duty shoes and I'll rebuild the drums and bend up some new brake lines.

Thanks guys, I will definitely keep taking photos of the build and once the exploration gets underway I'll post links to our webpage.
Today is finding a way to charge the new AC system and starting to rebuild the drums from the 14bolt.
The other night I was up to 11:30p POR'ing the underside...
Thanks Cal!
If it wasn't for my cousin helping me every step of the way this would not be possible; he's an electricity guru and really good with a wrench. When i first started this, it seemed extensive on paper, but it wasn't until i started installing and modifying that i realized what a...
O2Tahoe your rig was my inspiration for this build!! Just wait until next week and I think you will see what I mean :)
The amount of work has been hectic, but its been an incredible learning experience!
As an example, my AC compressor went out last week so as I'm finally done installing the...
After quite some time planning and the last two months underneath the truck, we're finally getting close to finishing up our expedition build.
I've learned tons of information on this site, so I thought I would share what I'm up to with you guys!

4x4trailers....but they are out of business.
There are a few vendors on this forum that make nearly identical trailers, definitely check them out!
haha - i knew no matter what these photos were going up...couldn't let everyone down again!
tomorrow I'm POR'ing the underside...even though it was stored, there's a bit of rust underneath. What does everyone here seal there's with?
After that, I'm getting a tire carrier made so it's going to...
technically - absolutely!!
Most likely we're going to cut the vertical bars off b/c we have no intention of hauling 5 tires...but Im definitely going to keep the welded base.
the top canvas was custom made...underneath it are x5 offroad only tires.
The original owner's intention was that once he got to where he wanted to be, he would remove the street tires off his truck and put on his beadlocked rims.
I have a Chevy, he had a Jeep...so I'm also selling x5 BRAND...
Not sure if this is the right section...but technically i do store gas in my jerry cans. :)
Overall:
Just picked up a trailer that came with x10 jerry cans (x4 fuel + x6 water)...the gas cans are 10yrs old and were actively used, the water cans are also 10yrs and have never been used...
It's funny b/c i took a bunch of photos from every angle thinking to myself, "the folks from expedition portal are going to like this!"
Then as i leave the garage it's more like "#$@@% the #$%#@ heater hose is #$#@@ leaking" - and i left the camera there :)
