Nice, thanks. I've checked all of the nearby stores like napa and o'reillys. I will have to check other stores further away to see what they have, looks like walmart might carry some adjustable pullers as well, looks like I've got some phone calls to make tomorrow.
I remember looking at that one when I bought mine, but it was quite spendy. I think $75 was the cheapest I saw, which was about 5x more expensive than the one I got. For a commonly used tool, that's not too bad, but I don't remember the last time I replaced a pitman arm in the past 15 years.
Does anyone remember the part number of the pitman arm puller you used on your montero? I bought a Lisle 41900 seen in the photo from Rockauto, but it's too large and hits the frame before it makes it over the pitman arm. I've checked all of the local auto parts stores, they just have the same...
Nice, thanks, I actually got the Red N Tacky when I took the Xtra HD back in to return it a few days ago. Like you said, it seemed to get really good reviews.
I picked up some Lucas Xtra Heavy Duty grease to use on my chassis/steering grease points, but once I got home I noticed it's a Polyurea based grease that's usually not compatible with some OEM or lithium greases. Does anyone know which grease is good to use for a Gen2/2.5 montero, any lithium...
Perfect, hopefully it's not on there too tight. I will probably get Moog parts, but are there any cheaper brands you have used like Mevotech or ACDelco?
Yep, that's what I'm wondering. I have plenty of access to the components so I guess I'm good. I've got a pickle fork, is there another tool I'll need for this?
Thanks.
I recently moved to an apartment and don't have garage space anymore, but need to change these two parts out. Can I replace them without jacking the vehicle up? I don't want to get too much attention from property management.
Thanks!
Before you starting ripping stuff out, did you try the reset with the dash button? I don't remember the exact steps, but my montero occasionally does a crank but no start, and if I remember right, I turn the key to ACC an hold the little button on the dash for about 10 seconds, then it starts.
I mean the front main engine seal, behind the crank pulley. It's hard to tell but it looks like I might have to pull the oil pan to access the front seal, but looks like the pan can't come off with the pumpkin/axles where they are(?) I'm jealous that you have access to a lift.
Getting right down to it, good work! Are you doing the front main seal also? I'm wondering if you would drop the front end out to get to it or pull the engine. Mine has been leaking for awhile, I really need to make some time for it.
If these are the crossover hoses on the back of the engine like the picture implies, I replaced mine about 6 months ago as well. I didn't need to pull the manifold or anything and local parts house didn't have them for Montero SR, so I just bought the ones for the Sport which were basically...
Same, been sitting in the garage for years. Where they used to be I have a compressor on one side and a hardcase mounted on the other. A lot more useful than two tiny seats.
Good deal, definitely one of the best color schemes on these vehicles. Remember when you're changing those leaking valve cover gaskets, that's the best time to replace the rear cam seals, spark plugs, wires, and intake plenum gasket (looks like you have some of those in the maintenance pic)...
Makes perfect sense, thank you for explaining. Too bad 3rd Gen 4runner bumpers are almost perfect, I never see those up for sale. I really like the look of the FJ bumper that was on Eurosonic's Montero, seems like it fits really well.
I live in Wenatchee and almost checked out this vehicle awhile back, but never did because of the mileage. Looks like you talked them down a good amount on the price. Does it have a rear locker? I didn't see the orange sticker on the trans tunnel shroud.
