thanks
Do you think the Actros (98-2000 range) with manual transmission can be DIY maintained out of Europe? I read they had a troublesome automatic, but i can't tell what the manual is like for reliability. What's your fuel consumption like as an RV now?
I found a US company that will make the panels to spec, but wanted a LARGE order. If there's enough interest i can place a bulk order for panels. It would take about 6 16' habitats to get an order going with them. How much interest is there for quality foam core panels?
Appreciate the concern, but this issue is valid in so many areas. What about the 200hp sport bike that the kid can buy with his Burger King income? All the motorhomes out there that are over 10,000kg. It goes on and on like this.
I towed a few things with my old 80 series that was really built out. One of the worst tow rigs you could own in my opinion. The big Truck seem way easier to manage than a 30' trailer and truck combo. They turn really tight.
I've been on a number of test drives. I've driven large commercial trucks in High School and College jobs without issues. I get that it's on a huge scale and more to deal with than a 4x4 Sprinter. I honestly think it's worse to tow a 12,000 pound RV with an F250, than to drive a big expedition...
That's good. What sized tires are you running?
I'd love to hear details on engine/trans and MPG you're getting. I've heard 6-12mpg from different sources.
One of the sellers I talked to said his had "high speed gears". Which makes me think they have different gear sets.
Reminds me of the Lotus Elise chassis adhesives. The entire frame was glued together with a special adhesive. Ended up being amazingly strong and accident resistant.
How about two links. I talked to a guy who called them Eco Hubs. I honestly didn't look into it a great deal and just assumed it was a different gear set, but i guess they delete the reduction set.

Does anyone here have seat time in an SK truck like an 1835 or similar?
Can the gear ratios be easily changed in the hubs of these like the LMTV? It looks like most have a planetary hub.
Thanks guys. I sent off some emails. Got a few leads on panels. I found a place that will make whatever i want in 2000sqft batches. They stated it needed a plywood layer in order to hang cabinets.
How are you folks doing upper cabinets in these foam core builds? 3m tape :)
True, but i think buying some panels would just be smarter. I think you'd need to press it between between something perfectly flat. I can't believe there isn't a US supplier for this stuff.
Yeah. Times are changing for sure. I got a quote from Total Composite back in the good old days. Should have pulled the trigger on that, but i went with a 4x4 Sprinter instead.
I'm toying with the idea of welding up a steel frame from L / square tube and then just using the panels as the walls glued to the metal framing. I think some of the habitats are built that way. I'm also just looking for a complete truck as i don't really need a big project.

I just posted that as I'm in the same boat. Having a hard time getting my head around a $35,000 box. A box it a pretty simple building design and I'd think someone would be able to make a box for...
