I know this isn't getting a lot of attention, but I thought I'd update again anyway, so someone else trying to get info would have a bit more information.
We ran a trial on the headsets this last weekend. I've ordered used sets off eBay, and it's been the most problematic experience with the...
Although buying used was suggested, I bought new so I could get a complete 6-person setup. I see now that I maybe could have bought a used 4-person and gotten an extra box, but tech support was very helpful so I don’t mind buying new. Aircraft Spruce shipped quickly, too.
I am buying used for...
I have and like the DeLorme Atlas and Gazetteer line for the US. I just bought Alaska to start planning a trip. However, I don’t see the BC or NWT maps available. Is there a good equivalent for those areas?
My camping rig is a 24' 4x4 Class C. It's been pretty good so far, and I have come to resign myself to how slow I have to go on washboard and my constrained mobility in general. It's been worth it to get to remote places that have soft sand or a steep, low traction grade between me and the goal...
go by crawl ratio. I’ve got a E-450 based camper with 4.63 gears, 2.40 first gear and I think the transfer case low is 2.72. That gives me a crawl ratio of about 33:1. In order to get into the torque curve, I need to be above a walking pace which is uncomfortable on rutted tracks with a lot of...
I think part of the issue is camper type. Lots of trucks and vans here but not a lot of slide in campers. You (and I) use the ladder very occasionally for access to the roof for service or other rare events. So the ladder is mostly unused. Most people here probably keep it clear to use to access...
The tradeoff is that truck campers get kind of wobbly and wavy when you walk around in them and are susceptible to rocking in the winds. I found that having the jacks down in camp was a big increase in comfort. The aft jacks didn't hang down significantly below the bumper, and the forward jacks...
Awesome, thanks.
I’ll try the cleaning and if that doesn’t work I’ll look these guys up on eBay.
Regarding storage, it looks like there aren’t awesome answers, I’ll just have to figure out a good spot that I don’t forget about and later create another good spot.
My E-450 based camper has no glove box. What are you guys with econolines doing for that? Now I have a visor folder but want more space for tire warranty and battery warranty etc.
Also, my belt reels are floppy. Is this a rebuild thing, replace? How hard you s it?
What would the long taper on the rear and the steep taper on the front do to your interior space? All things being equal, it’s more aerodynamic to have the long taper at the rear.
It’s hard to say, there are a lot of variables. I have read a bunch of posts about furnace fans running down batteries on cold nights so it’s wise to keep your thermostat set low.
I am wrapping up a solar project on my new (used) camper and I kinda went overboard. I would guess that for that...
The difference between the third and fourth pictures is fantastic. Draw lines from the rear wheels to the lowest hanging part at the rear on each of those vehicles. The Mercedes has the bumper and bevel on the camper all in a line. The angle is totally functional. The Ford, however, has the...
Having bashed the upper corners of my various campers over the years, I think the beveled edges are about more than just aerodynamics.
but overall, it is indeed funny how similar our reactions are. I also looked at the comments and saw zero so I didn’t comment there.
(I also didn’t comment...
It’s not being hyped as a camper for a Doka. It’s being hyped as a clean-sheet design for a US flatbed camper. They chose to show it off in that configuration. According to the article, they have multiple design awards so they presumably presented it in the best light.
but if it’a on a DOKA, it...
Can I get something off my chest? I don’t get the angled rear panel on most “expedition” campers. I mean, I understand why they are supposed to be there but I don’t get what they are actually doing on most of them.
If you angle the back panel up to improve your departure angle, but then put the...
I asked my battery manufacturer what to do about this situation albeit with much less sophistication. In my case, I have an old legacy charger that is one stage of 13.6v. Their response was literally, “why bother?”
The batteries will do just fine at 80% pretty much forever. My solar controller...
I had a similar path to camper ownership. I used to camp with varying levels of gear but used sun showers and dug holes. After getting married and having two daughters the position against squatting hardened.
although this is a thread about showers, the main thing for me is the bathroom. As I...
That’s what I’m saying. In CA, by law they must give air for free to customers. So they can turn it on for you. Other states may have that same law. Or they may have the pay setup to deter abuse and the guy will just flip the switch for you anyway. It’s worth asking.
