We did some training over the last weekend in the mountains near Cape Town. It was an opportunity for many organisations to work together and learn a bit of each others disciplines.
We got hit by a major storm on the saturday night. The chopper pilots deserved a medal. I was abseiling down a...
Has anyone here ever mounted one or more antennae on the hood? I'm not talking about brackets on the side edge, but actually drilled and fitted on the hood.
Any pros and cons? Photos?
My two antennae are currently on the bullbar and I'm considering moving them to my hood to improve ground...
Is there any practical reason why I shouldn't mount one of my radios on top of my dashboard? Heat from the sun, glare etc
With SAR callouts I need to twiddle the radio quite a bit so having it right in front of me would be a help. Reaching between my seats behind me to make adjustments is a pain...
(Please point me in the right direction if this has been covered already)
Has anyone here made a skid plate to protect your sparewheel?
My 32" spare doesn't quite fit where it used to. I'm thinking about squeezing it back and fitting a skid plate to protect it from damage.

Is there a right way to store a compass?
I seldom use my compass (I just go by the sun and the stars) but I like to keep it handy. Can I just leave it stashed in the truck? Does it lose it's magnetism if stored close to metal?

These guys call themselves hunters and give themselves a high five afterwards.

I want to move and re-mount my two radios. I'd like to mount them in tandem (two radios, one bracket)
Will I get interference if they are either flush or very close?
Should a leave a gap?
Should I put some rubber between them?
Any tips please?
They are an Icom F110 VHF and Dragon 29mhz.
