12 Volt compressor is the way to go now, combined with a suitable sized battery bank and solar array. They are very efficient, the key thing is you want to look for a Danfoss compressor.
Have a look at https://www.novakool.com/single-door-refrigerators we were very happy with ours.
The German heavy truck VINs use a different system to North America. It caused us many problems as our 1993 917AF came up as a 2001 MB car. A letter on Mercedes/Daimler letterhead solved those issues. We were unable to get insurance in our home province until it was registered but could not...
We have been places that are easily accessible with 2wd until it rains. Then if you have enough food and water till the tracks dry out 4wd is not needed.
I find with air seats they are always "chasing" me. I like to move in the seat and the pressure is always constant with an air seat. Our truck (MB917AF) soaked up most bad bumps petty well. If you need an air seat I think you are driving too fast. YMMV
I had an ISRI air seat that failed after about 25 years (all the plastic bits were super brittle).
I capped the air hose and used it for the next 150000km, did not miss the seat suspension one bit. I am not a fan of air seats.
Having lived 6 years without a house, just the one on wheels, I will say forget about ordering on line outside North America. What for? Once the build is done there should be no need for heavy/large parts. If there is a need you will be stuck at a garage or camp site and can order it delivered...
My truck came with English and German manuals and the engine manual. All sold with the truck.
I suggest you start a thread requesting someone scan their English version.
You could try Bill Caid's web page http://www.billcaid.com/2010/1017ACamperConstruction20100921/TripMain.html
I mounted our rear camera so it pointed straight down. That covers the real blind spot and makes parallel parking way easier.
For navigation we started with a Garmin sat nav and a Samsung 10" tablet on a RAM mount. We used maps.me and ioverlander on the tablet. We gave up on the Garmin pretty...
Started out with a Parker Racor filter. Impossible to find replacement filters in South America, which can be a problem if you go through 3 in a week !
The Mann WK 1040 has a high flow rate so takes a while to plug and is readily available worldwide.
On a MB917AF OM366
In South America , if we had an issue we were always told " no we don't have the parts for your truck". After sweet talking and begging , a mechanic would look at it and say " oh we have that, that's the same engine as the truck over there!" They just weren't interested in anything out of the...
For the USA Rob Pickering at Terry Lee Enterprises is THE guy, parts and Mercedes trained mechanic. In Canada Hans Mross in BC. Pacific Power Group has the EPC and can order parts. Oil and Fuel filters can be ordered on Amazon. Add a fuel pre filter water separator if the truck does not have...
That is probably the worst place you could put the door. Side to side movement is the most violent. A slider will not last long. You have also set the door back so that the sidewalls obscure your view. That volume outside the door is wasted space where every cubic foot counts. Steel is heavy and...
