Everything coming from China gets hammered by at least 25% duty. That was introduced by Trump to "punish" (his words) the Chinese. Reality is that it doesn't effect anyone over there. It's the American consumer that is paying it. Cash grab!
I switched from a Sprinter to a Transit. The ford is a no drama vehicle that can be serviced anywhere in pretty much any shop. Just finished a road trip through Idaho, Utah and Colorado. Can't remember seeing a single Mercedes Service centre. Can't imagine them going into limb mode and needing...
The lagun is great when you need flexibility and have limited space. Great for smaller table tops. The bushings are some type of plastic to prevent squeaking and they can be replaced easily. In other works it’s a product that can be repaired/fixed and not just ending up in the landfill. Let me...
1/4" thickness would certainly look too bulky. Shipping long narrow pieces is expansion and difficult. You basically need to crate the freight and ship by flatbed truck.
Subscriptions for features in new cars is nothing new. I believe BMW and Mercedes offer heated seats for a monthly fee. When you look into the business investment world, subscriptions are always a must have to increase profits. Without them your valuation goes down! Crazy!
Hypothetical question: What size L profiles would you be loocking for? I could see us stocking them if there is enough interest. Most likely pick up only from our warehouse.... (Shipping anything longer than 8' is VERY costly otherwise).
Simple 3mm thick FRP L profiles are common in Europe. Anything else is most likely unique to each manufacturer. Our FRP pultrusions are made specifically for us.
I agree that the miter joint is a potential weak point. Nothing wrong with butt joints and capping everything with a FRP angle all around. That's how most expo trucks in Europe are build.
Here is a video of our current construction method.

What's the foam density? Any specs on the FRP skin? It's important to consider these specs for use on a vehicle. Last thing you want is the foam core or Skin to delaminate or fracture.
I agree with your analyzes about getting the custom build done in Canada if you are based in the USA. We have many customers that went that route.
On a side note: Pronghorn is no longer part of our dealer network. Please have a look at our partner listings here: www.totalcomposites.com (more...
LOL the " shower" comes up all the time when we talk customers through the purchase. I personally would not plan for an actual shower in a small camper like that. The divider walls for the enclosure take a lot of the "open" space feel away. Instead, I would try to work with a curtain system and...
Thank you for considering a TC camper.
The finished weight can certainly vary by a huge margin all depending on the components and materials you are adding throughout the outfitting. EVERYTHING ads up!! Your 40 gallons of water for example could be down sized to 20. We are 3 people and carry 30...
Keep it coming :-) Much much appreciated!
I reached out to GM for the documents. Here is what they wrote back:
As of November 2021, we are no longer able to provide this information. However, you can purchase a copy of the vehicle invoice (documentation of the vehicle cost broken out by...
After building several other adventure vehicles over the years for our family it was time to come up with one that will let travel with more interior space and payload.
Let me introduce the 2006 GMC 5500 4x4 Top Kick .
At this point we are planing for a 16’ Total Composites camper body and a...
Pole to Pole is nothing short of challenges to overcome. Huge respect to them taking on that task. I truly enjoyed spending time with them while hosting at our house. I learned so much that I’m actively looking into purchasing an electric truck myself.
We would love to do that but as long as we have the boxes on offer as empty shells, we can’t go down that rabbit hole. The liability and possible damage resulting from possible tipped over boxes is a bit much. If we decide to only offer fully outfitted campers we could certainly move the centre...
Some nifty ideas/solutions! Looks great. I think I seen your truck in Squamish not too long ago.
Question: You talk about cold weather camping. How do you keep the interior/water/propane/food etc from freezing while driving? Do you transfer those items to the drivers cab?
I noticed in my truck...
