Thanks for all the responses.
I think road noise is a real personal thing.
In my experience, most aggressive tires get loud if (not rotated =cupping), and once you wear the tread down more than halfway. I think it's b/c at that point you have worn out the scalloped edges or any other feature...
Thanks for the input, I am going 235/85/16 its for a gen 1 taco.
I have the Falken at3w on the work truck they are awesome. Figured I would try something new
Well, I am admittedly horrible at keeping up build/adventure threads.
I am trying.
Here is the last year of adventures.
For work, I get to drive a lot of remote ranch roads across the west. That makes up some of these trips. The rest are all my typical trips to central america for surfing and...
I need to get some new tires ordered in the next few days. I really can't decide between the Toyo atIII and Duratracs.
I feel like I have been seeing a lot of Duratrcs lately and it has peaked my curiosity.
The tires are for a 1st gen tacoma. The truck will see 50/50 asphalt and dirt.
Yes, I...
found out my parts are finally in.
I am on a quick surf trip in central america. It will be a few more weeks before anything is accomplished. Which is a good thing, b/c I still have not figured out which tires to go with. Hoping to get it figured out while the sales are taking place. I am...
I dont mind the E load, I know they are heavy. I like the durability.
I have used cooper st Maxx in the past and loved them. I just put a new set on my wife's 4 runner.
I am tempted to use them but they are heavy. I think around 50lb a tire where the Toyo AT3 is like 44lb. I could be...
headlights were waiting when I got home. I just threw them on.
I was surprised how that all the plastic clips were still in great shape, not brittle at all.
I forgot how fun these trucks are to drive, They seem to have the perfect amount of pep ad power for their size. I also have been driving a 1987 22re or a ford diesel. Sure, the ford has never-ending power but it doesn't jump off the line like this little 1st gen. Hopefully, the ARB items arrive...
I could not pass up this little gem,1 owner 136k (he is a neighbor). He Has done every required maintenance and oil change at 3500k they are all noted in the book.
I was looking forward to building the little 87 but this was a deal I could not pass up. So onward and forward.
I had ordered...
I could not agree more. I lusted after 30 yr old vehicles for decades but never bought one b/c I knew it would be expensive. Its not just the parts, but its your time, the time without the vehicle. My first truck was an old F100 farm rig, I bought from my uncle for $1000. It broke down all the...
some of this might have been mentioned already in this thread. I have skimmed through , so sorry if it is redundant, Hopefully not.
I agree with the OP. I love my 1987 Toyota pickup. It is kind of a pain. I have only found 1 mechanic who will work on it that I trust. I end up doing alot of the...
BAD NEWS for this thread, it's going away.
As luck would have it my neighbor told me he was going to sell his 1st gen taco 4x4 with the rear locker. He bought it brand new in 2004 and it has been meticulously maintained. He is 30 yrs ex-military. It has 137K. I asked him how much, he was...
I was thinking about switching to 4.88. I am going to stick with the 31's so figured it was not necessary.
I am going to add AC . When I do that I was going to switch the radiator. I am going to redo the ball joints, tie rod ends, u joints, idler arms cv's as well when I do the suspension.
