    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Oh I wasn't after an RS because I thought it would make a good commuter, they apparently have a brutal ride and aren't very economical, but I mean it's a 350 horsepower AWD Focus! Try you a Rover if you want to see how lifts and tires can't replace minimal overhangs, a short wheelbase and good...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

One bedroom apartment on top of a two car garage. Pretty much the ideal living space for a single 20-something guy who likes to wrench. I'm sure the Ecoboost F150s are fine, I had no interest in a half-ton. I did have an extremely hard time deciding between the Taco and a turbocharged Ford, but...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

I average 20, not thrilling but I can live with it. I feel better about an N/A Toyota than a turbocharged Ford as a long-term purchase. I know turbo reliability concerns are mostly unfounded but when I set out to buy this it was the first time I spent more than $3500 on a vehicle so it had to be...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

East coast? Makes a lot more sense to me out there. I lived in eastern PA for a few years(had a 2nd-gen 4Runner at the time) and State Forests/gameland roads were either lame or ATV-only and ORV parks were terrifying in a DD. Out west public lands are vast and roads range from maintained gravel...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

I mean that's an easy question, no the Tacoma is not enough truck seeing as the tractor on its own exceeds the max tow rating of any configuration. Haha clearly things devolved into a general debate. I just can't stand the bigger = better thing if there isn't a real need. In my life, a bigger...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Yeah I'm confused here too. I get the base camp thing, if the goal is to transport people and non-street legal toys along with a comfortable living space to the trails yeah okay obviously a Tacoma will run out of space and GCVWR much faster than a half-ton or HD will. Not my cup of tea, but it...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

All that ride height to achieve an identical breakover angle to a short bed Tacoma.

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Loans(as an individual, different if it's capitol being used by a business) only make sense to me for education and real estate. Education gives a valuable step up, payments on a home builds equity in an asset with the potential to appreciate(or, even in the worst case will still retain...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

I've been lusting after one of those too. Hopefully in a couple years. I feel like we have very different standards haha. Until I bought my first capable vehicle in college(91 4Runner, this is only three years ago) I was a backpacker. The idea of even having a vehicle in the backcountry is...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

And this is where they can take you. Just after setting up camp a couple walked up on foot to appreciate the view. They said they were camped nearby and would've beaten us to this spot, but they didn't feel comfortable taking their F250 down the steep, narrow and rocky track leading out onto the...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Oh I am well aware of the temp at the moment haha, I camped at 6,000 feet in the Cascades this past weekend. It was not warm. I've always just sucked it up and tented year round(I'm in my early 20s, it is what it is) but this winter I want to do more camping, especially at ski areas so I'm just...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

I guess what I'm not seeing is how a bigger truck makes for a more comfortable base camp unless you've got a family and need breathing room. Materials science has come a long way in the past 20 years so you'd probably be significantly less damp in a newer pop-top bed camper sort of thing and a...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

True and nothing replaces a spotter in technical terrain. Still, better visibility makes for a more fun and confidence inspiring experience on the trails. You can't get around geometry. On steep, narrow forest roads in the Cascades in my Tacoma I'll often come over a crest and not be able to see...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

It's not just mental, visibility is important. You can walk an obstacle as much as you want and have the best spotter in the world but being able to see where you're placing your tires is the best way to not get stuck and avoid damage(or more serious situations).

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

I'm not sure what gen you've got haha but I would hardly call my Tacoma small. My Rover is a perfectly reasonably sized SUV and it has over two feet less wheelbase, over three feet shorter and almost half a foot narrower than my DCSB Taco. Still, I find that it does a great job of covering...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Ok I can certainly see the appeal of that. I should really start bringing my mountain bike on more trips, now that I'm thinking about it I have no good reason not to. I could still do thru-routes but make camp earlier and explore the area on two wheels. I do really like my Rover as a midpoint...

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Yup, same deal in the Pacific Northwest. I tend to have a lot more fun in my Rangie than my Tacoma just because it's much smaller and easier to see out of(plus the paint is already ruined). I find myself in low range more often to navigate tight trees without needing to worry about the clutch...

It's near Lion Rock Spring. I need to stop posting pics from there, soon it'll always be overrun with people!

Does the rep of "unreliable" still hold true?

This. (apologies for gravedigging the reply, I'm newish here.) My daily driver is a current-gen Tacoma and I have a Range Rover Classic. I love both for their own reasons. Toyota ownership is like having a really excellent tool, Rover ownership is like having a dog. I like to say that the Rover...
