OK thanks, the OE springs had no preload, IE I could remove them by unbolting the shocks and lifting the frame off the axle. If I wanted 1.5" lift in theory I could measure the OE springs and add 1.5" of height correct? They are stashed in the attic I think.....
I can do full droop and some...
The idea of ditching the damn stiff factory coils. The Kelderman leveling kit is what Earthroamer runs, I figured that was a good starting point... It was "supposed" to make it ride much better.
But I dont know if its my long wheelbase, and heavy front or what, but it feels about the same as...
That's the 7.3 issue. Mine is an Oring into the upper pan. Thinking perhaps too ouch boost plus some blow by, killed the Oring?

I weighed before the new wheels and tires... But the new wheel and tires are 230# each. Dana Super 60 is right about 650# incl brakes knuckles etc
Total uptravel currently is ~4"
Ride height to full drop IDK, probably again in the 4" range.
So 8" total travel? (seems like too little?)
Shocks...
Funny you posted. I was just writing up a rant/ramble about springs and shocks and stupid heavy trucks.....
The rear isn't all that bad with the new leaf packs. It could use some shocks, but otherwise its much better than the OE spring. I do have the bags still, and IIRC have ~30psi in them...
Probably well due for replacement if they were original! Good simple engines.
I'm retrofitting a TBI unit into one of my projects right now. Simple units.

If it's old enough to have cap, rotor and wires yes definitely change them! Pcv I don't bother with unless it's failed (doesn't rattle). But most everything I own now is coil on plug.

Well this happened! Only highway driving so far.
Fit well and the resi's tucked in nicely. Im at 4 clicks (12 total) up from full soft on the high speed compression, and full soft on the low speed.
You may be right. I should have about 5" up travel now. But it takes a lot of air pressure to stay there. Shocks are on order..... Hope they work!
And yes octo is an option, but airing up and down just kills time. I'd want ctis if I'm doing it!

Hmmm ping tanks may be the answer! The idea is to increase the volume, run a large airline between the bag and tank, and it allows the pressure to change more gradually as the bag gets compressed. Supposedly keeps the spring rate more constant.

One other thought, using a different bag, the Firestone specs on this one say it's a little under sized. It's what kelderman has always used, on the earth roamers and what not as well, but I'm thinking maybe a larger higher-capacity bag would take less air pressure to hold the load. But in the...
Its full air in the front. Running firestone bags only. The issue I think is the bags have an internal bump stop, they need to be infalted to 8" minimum to give 3" above the bumpstop.
