The Blue Sea ACR I bought didn't have the Start feature. I still have it and use it now and then if the house batteries are very drained and I want to connect them quickly to the Alternator. I don't remember the exact figures, but if the house batteries are too much lower than the starting...
I've got a '97 Type 3 Crestline Ambulance which has rear Dually wheels. Would your recommendation still be an 06-07 Sterling?
Stock is a Drum brake Dana 70 with 8 x 6.5 and 4.10 LSD. If the ring & pinion gears are too worn when I open if to re-bearing it, I'm considering swapping in a disc...
I have a type 3 but essentially the same wiring. So... I'll explain what I did.
1st off ditch the diode isolator. It'll lead to a quick death of your batteries.
2nd I connected the lead from the center pole of the diode isolator (Alternator) to the house batteries. Long story short, the...
I’ve thrown it back together with a new seal. The lube was just replaced a month or so back. I’ll top it off so that it’s full and ill keep a close eye on it.
Between now and when we leave I’ll put some miles on it to ensure it is still quiet. I’d rather not rebuild it on the road, but I’ll...
I agree that the diff needs to be rebuilt. It all comes down to this…
If the diff isn’t making any noise (howling or clunking) will it hold together for a 1200 mile round trip?
Or should I somehow get a bearing and LSD clutch kit and rebuilt the rear axle in the next 2 days (with tomorrow...
I unbolted the driveshaft, removed pinion nut, and pulled the flange. The flange is worn where the seal rides, but it looks like it’ll probably seal with a new seal. For the time being I threw it back together and cleaned the housing. After a short drive I found it’s leaking fairly quickly so at...
Just got back from a shorter trip, and before ja few days before that we drove 1700 miles (round trip) through the Rockies. I was checking over the truck for a 1300 mile trip through the Rockies again, and I found that the pinion seal (rear axle) is weeping a bit. On its own I wouldn't be too...
I have another thread on the topic here. The spindles are the same P/N, and Chris @ujoint says he has done the swap a few times. The pistons in the callipers are larger, and the rotor is thicker & 1/2” larger in diameter.
I already have a 2001 master cylinder & booster that has a larger bore...
The stock brakes on my ‘97 are uninspiring. Especially compared to the disc brakes I have on my “1974” Fj40. I have “” because 90%+ of the original truck has been replaced.
The front discs are 4 piston callipers on the front and the rear are 1.25”+ thick vented rotors that use a massive single...
Front ‘01 rotors are too thin to turn. Once the pads are worn a bit more, I’ll likely replace them with ‘08 rotors, ‘08 callipers, and ‘08 pads.
Anyone in BC or Alberta have ‘08 or newer components they’ve pulled off for a 4x4 conversion?
The way prices are here, it’ll likely be $1500 (about...
Here’s an example that’s for sale near here…
It doesn’t have a visible frame underneath the van. If I didn’t already have an Ambulance with a 7.3 and a 40, I’d seriously consider buying it. It doesn’t have an engine and transmission, but for $3000 CDN (about $2200 USD), it would be worth...
it almost looks like they dropped a van body on top of a truck frame. I’ve not seen frame rails beneath the van on other conversions. On the plus side, all the steering geometry should be correct. :D
I’m surprised… my 7.3 isn’t overly noisy and gets decent fuel economy… way better than any similar gas powered rig of similar size and weight. In the 30k miles I’ve driven it all I’ve replaced the fuel filter a couple times, replaced the O-rings around the fuel bowl, replaced the alternator...
I hope you’re still able to enjoy the heck out of your Ambo, despite the setbacks. Unfortunately I know all too well about setbacks… buy life keeps going on.
Welcome to the dark side.
In theory this forum is for Vans but I doubt anyone will care. Ambulances are all welcome here, and you’ve essentially got a Type 1. Just because you mounted it on the truck chassis doesn’t change what’s involved in lifting the roof and remodelling the interior.
I...
If I move anywhere, it’ll be further away from civilization. I haven’t gone into many wreckers lately. Most don’t have parts for my vehicles and want way to much if they do. My newest vehicle is 17, next is 28, and then 51 years old.
30 years ago it was getting hard to find parts for my ‘74...
Why do some people suck so much. I’m glad it’s only a thread… but Fawk.
I miss the days when you could leave your vehicle parked somewhere and no one would touch it or vandalize it. At the building where our office is we used a tell homeless people they were welcome to seek shelter in some of...
