Next Gen Wrangler to Get 3.0L EcoDiesel and 8-speed Auto

Enough of us have our fingers crossed, that's for sure. I've always thought the 3.0 was a bit too big / to much torque for the Wrangler - especially the 2 door - but I'll take it. Seeings they're already using it in the GC and 1500, it makes perfect sense to keep using the same thing for...

The Brute Rebuild / Refurb / Rehab Thread

The VW TDI swaps are different, because you can swap in a street legal engine from a vehicle newer than what it's going into. It will be required to pass all the emissions tests the orginal VW had to, but that won't be a problem because you're running the original VW ECU and emissions stuff. As...

The Brute Rebuild / Refurb / Rehab Thread

Awesome work Yetters. 33mpg in a TJ is like my wildest dream come true! I emailed COTY yesterday about the 2.0 in the JK and just got this reply for anyone that's interested: The development JK that we brought to the SEMA show in Las Vegas last November produced a healthy 220 HP and 390 TQ...

The Brute Rebuild / Refurb / Rehab Thread

Awesome, thanks. I've never actually seen anyone go through with that conversion, can't wait to see the result! If I still had my TJ (or even a 2 door JK) that would be high on my list of engine choices. -Dan

Who makes these rear corner protectors

It's true - they were a prototype from AEV, but they never actually made them. People have repeatedly asked Dave H (owner of AEV) why not, and I've never seen a straight reply. If I was going the roof rack / RTT option, I'd likely buy AEV's "builders corners" and modify them into the above. I...

    jeep jk unlimited camper project

Very cool. Have you thought about modifying the roll bar at the back to get it out of the way? I'm going to turn mine into a perfect square box, so it's in the very "corners" of the hard top. Also, there will never be anyone in the back while driving (no back seat) so even if it's a fraction...

CONFESSIONS FROM A GUY BEHIND A DESK

I feel the exact same, but remember, "earning" the time off and journey is part of enjoying the whole package. I've really enjoyed the last ~4 years sitting behind a desk saving every penny I possibly could, though it's going to be mightly sweet to move forward and hit the road again in a few...

    Diesel News: POST HERE

I take it you've never been to Europe? There is absolutely no chance of that happening - a massive majority of vehicles in Europe are diesel because of the economy. Right now in London gas is $6.29USD/US Gallon - you bet that extra 30% of mileage pays off with diesel. -Dan

    Improved MPG with steeper gears.

Yep, absolutely. I was oversimplifying when I said FWD vs RWD because almost all FWD are front engine, E-W engine, and almost all RWD are front engine, N-S engine. Obviously there are some vehicles that don't fit that mold, and then it's basically "Is the drive coming out of the engine already...

    Improved MPG with steeper gears.

Out of curiocity, what example still has the 90 deg change? A 4x4 only driving the front axle? Also, I'm a bit confused, if a RWD vehicle has a transverse engine.. I'm assuming you mean rear-engined? (In which case, yes, the Physics says you'll be better off like a FWD because the power doesn't...

    Improved MPG with steeper gears.

Actually, it does. Due to the rear diff in a RWD vehicle having to re-direct the power at 90 degrees, a RWD car will always have more drivetrain loss than an FWD car that doesn't have that 90 deg "bend" in the power. Physics says there is nothing you can do about it. "90 degree" diffs are just...
