DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

Awesome info. Thank you. I will read and continue reading. The battery I purchased is the following: http://www.fuelzero.com/FuelZero-12v-50AH-Deep-Cycle-LIFEPO4-Battery-p/fz-12-50-lifepo4.htm http://www.ewtbattery.com/en/products-show-1026.html I guess you could consider this a "drop-in" LFP...

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

No, no...I have a boost converter that is pushing into the Genasun charge controller and then into the battery. I got the idea via this thread: https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/arb-fridge-with-lifepo4-in-a-dual-battery-setup.110727/

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

Interesting. Ironically, some of the info I came across mentioned the opposite...that a lower voltage is fine, but it will shorten the life of the LiFePo4 cells. Can you post up any reading to your point? I'd be very interested in reading it. If I don't need the booster, it would simplify the...

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

I thought the same thing when I originally got started down this path. After reading about LiFePo4 batteries ad naseum (multiple sources), the initial charge rate is higher, then drops to the float charge rate. It is a 2 stage process. The end charge is 3.65v per cell (@ 4 cells is 14.6v). This...

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

The Seahorse boxes are more reasonable and just as sturdy. They are also used in this manner for other industries. There are resources out there that also manufacture faceplates for the bottom and tops. CAD files for those are available online. IMHO, LiFePo4 (LFP) batteries are a brilliant...

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

Thank you. The battery is a 50Ah. So that basically equates to the same usable Ah's as a Group 31 100Ah SLA. Except, this one weights in at 18lbs vs the 60-65Lbs of the SLA. Before I post a parts list...let me test this. I am certain it should work accordingly, but I'd rather use it in the field...

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

Been there and done that. I purchased an Arkpak not so long ago and cringed at the crappy build quality. After making an LiFePo4 system for my trailer, I decided to make a portable unit as well. Here is the result. The final unit came in at 14.90"L x 12.10"W x 9.60"D and weighing...

Yes... the next time I set it up, I'll grab a photo of it. FWIW - the awning raises to approx 6'6".

    Giving Dobinson Suspension a try...

    Teardrops: Does shape affect MPG?

The best case scenario consists of weight - shape - height and rolling resistance. Weight - less than 1000# is ideal. Shape - a slope or rounded overall shape is best for air flow. Height - staying below the maximum height of the vehicle towing will greatly help MPG's as the trailer will remain...

Project #3 - Custom outfitted Overland Trailer

Tough to find another out there for the price and the function. I priced some custom ones and just about fell over from the costs from US manufacturers. Up to 7X over the cost of this HF unit (apples to apples in size / functionality). Crazy... C

Project #3 - Custom outfitted Overland Trailer

There are two 4x10" vents located in between each side. They are marine style vents that will allow for air flow but keep water out. I am about to add some light foam filters to them to help keep the dust out as well. C
