1999 Jeep Wrangler 2.2L Kubota diesel swap

It looks like a VW 2.8 + trans + wiring + everything else I need from Australia will cost a little over $20k. If I can find a viable diesel swap for under that, that's the direction I'll take. -Dan

1999 Jeep Wrangler 2.2L Kubota diesel swap

Right on, thanks. It looks like lots of people are taking the mechanical pump off the 603 and putting it on the 605/6 to make them all mechanical. They look sweet, though hard to come by in North America... I'm still dreaming, and trying to find a way :) -Dan

1999 Jeep Wrangler 2.2L Kubota diesel swap

Hey Redveloce, I just found another thread of yours where you mention you considered the OM602 / 603 / 605 / 606, while swapping it to fully mechanical. Did you get very far down the road of finding out if it would mate to the AX-15 with the OM617 adapter? Did you dig up anything else about...

Aussie registered HZJ 78 expo kitted in France - makes me want to jump ship

I still have my Australian passport & drivers license, so I figured I would do whatever it takes to register it there in my name, then just drive it where ever with Aussie plates. Likely I could sign a power of attorney for my Dad to do it without me being there (he's bought and sold cars in my...

Aussie registered HZJ 78 expo kitted in France - makes me want to jump ship

I was just chatting to Luis (LostWorldExpedition) yesterday about this truck. It's almost exactly what I want to build for my next trip, which begs the obvious question: Why not just buy that one. Hmm.. -Dan

Report: Diesel Wrangler On It's Way

Autoguide have an even more firm quote from Mike Manley, http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2013/02/jeep-wrangler-diesel-likely-after-refresh-in-2015.html Hmmm. Also interesting he says the new wrangler is 2015-16, not a year later as speculated by Allpar. -Dan

Report: Diesel Wrangler On It's Way

True. I hope that because it's in the GC and the 1500, tuners will be working on an "emissions delete" and re-tune ASAP. It's a combination of benefits for me: Cost savings at fill-up Range Low-down torque -Dan

Report: Diesel Wrangler On It's Way

Thanks for the numbers. Also note that as the price of gas and diesel rise, the savings become bigger (assuming the price difference between gas and diesel stay similar). I.e. run the calcs with gas at 4.80 and diesel at 5.80, or with gas at 5.80 and diesel at 6.80. Those extra 10 mpg make a...

    Autoblog Article Regarding Wrangler Diesel

Likely it has never passed US crash testing or emissions. My understanding is the latest version of the 2.8, since 2011, is more-or-less identical to the new V6 3.0 in the GC, so it should pass the same emissions without too much hassle. It's just a question of cost for the actual testing. -Dan

Allpar and a few others have said a few times the Wrangler re-design has been pushed back to 2016 (2017 model year). MoparNorm, who seems to know his stuff, said: -Dan

    Autoblog Article Regarding Wrangler Diesel

Awesome! My only wish is they bring it sooner, in the JK. I'm thinking of a limited run, like the 10th Anniversary for the 2015 model year, so something. I'm also very interested to see which engine/trans they go with. I think a standard is a must in the Wrangler, and I'm not sure it needs all...

Official: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel

As an Aussie I can tell you we never use metric gallons for anything. The only people that even use the word "gallon" are from pre-metrification days when that was the standard unit, and it was imperial. If you hear an Aussie say MPG, they are talking about Imperial (American) MPG. -Dan

2014 Jeep Liberty Replacement Without Camo

Why is everyone is focused on what it looks like? Big rumors that it will see a 3.2 lt pentastar, and maybe a 9 speed auto, for 45% efficiency. We know they're working hard to improve the efficiency of the Wrangler too, so these are more clues to how they might do it. -Dan
