Given your criteria, I agree with the Casita idea.....easily adapted to be as "rugged" as required, and a bombproof exterior. Personally, I thing they have the "cool" factor, some don't.
I have wondered about the under floor area in the rear....where the muffler typically sits. My JKU (bought used) came with a free flow exhaust that has eliminated the rear muffler. The entire area between the rear axle and the rear bumper is unoccupied. I've thought about an auxillary battery...
I'll echo the suggestion for two rear receivers that are tied into the next forward cross member. Soooo much less wiggling and rattling with two vs. one, and much sturdier attached to two cross members. Perhaps give consideration for the receiver/receivers to come through the rear framing member...

Dimensions: 22″ H x 28.5″ W x 17.9″ D (725 x 561 x 455 mm)

Fiberwerx makes a fiberglass one for $300, but you need really to also do their $600...
I've owned them both, and it's a tough call. There are two vehicles in my life that I honestly wish I'd never sold.....'72 K5 Blazer and an '87 Suburban. I have a big soft spot for a good square body suburban. But even then it's a tough call. How many creature comforts do you want/need? Will you...
