Scheel Mann Vario XL seats in the Equipt 200 Series Land Cruiser

Nice write up, thanks. I’ve been reading about these seats for a number of years and have yet to read a single negative review. I’m still a bit shy about getting them for my 450. Our seats were rebuilt 10 years and 160,000 miles ago and still in great shape. I’ve no back problems whatsoever...

How Much Worst is an 80 in an Emergency Maneuver (swerve) than a 100?

I’ve had my 96’ 80 for just over 7 years. I have a “ heavy” suspension system from OME, new bushings everywhere, and am quite anal about all maintenance, especially steering, suspension and brakes. The vehicle, needless to say, is very tight. Good driving habits go a long way. You commented you...

Automatic or Manual Transmission for Expedition Use?

never suggested anyone "float gears" on their personal vehicle. I only stated that the clutch is to be used to assist in shifting. That's what it is designed to do. Premature wear of any two moving surfaces will occur if a bit of speed matching of those two surfaces is not happening at the time...

Automatic or Manual Transmission for Expedition Use?

Notice please that I did say that the clutch is to be used to "help" shift gears in a regular vehicle, meaning of course that a good driver will speed match a bit, by default. If you are shifting properly, using the clutch to assist, the "speed matching" is kind of a by product of shifting...

Automatic or Manual Transmission for Expedition Use?

I now have my first automatic ever. FZJ80 and surprisingly, I like it. I’ve driven Fords, Jeeps and Freightliners multiple millions of miles and never had any clutch or transmission failures. My FZJ 80 has 326,000 miles on it. If and when it is time for a rebuild, I’ll find a manual transmission...

    RTT rack height recommendations?

The trailer is a very modified 4'x6' Tractor Supply Carry-On That is 24” off the ground. The sides are 25” high. The rack is being built/mounted upon a beefed up subframe ( 2x ) 17”s above the topsides for access. This gives us a rack height of 66”s from the ground. We carry about 300...

    Lets talk shovels

When I was 9 or 10 years old my grandpa said I'd better learn to use a shovel, you might have to use one for a living one day. Then he spent the summer teaching me. ( at 10 years old, mind you!) And, ya know what, later in life for about 4 years, I did use a shovel to make a living. Give...

Making the leap to an RTT.

I'm looking at the tepui autana 3 with the awning atop our trailer. How high must the bottom of the tent platform be in order to successfully attach and use the awning. My current plans are for a deck height of 5'6". Do I need to be higher than that? If so I'll have to rethink my...

    Overland Vehicle Choices?

Keep the 470, it’s just now broke in. I’ve 320,000 miles on my 450. It is a semi-daily driver, ( I’m retired ) and we take it on 10,000 mile tours every year, along with a lot of short trips closer to home. We’ve dumped a pile of money into it over the last three years. ( top end, front and...

    FJ80 wheel and slider recommendation

I agree with all the above. Whatever you do stick with 16” wheels. It’s always better to have more rubber on your sidewalls than less. I like the “stock” look so I have kept the original 450 wheels. I have all first generation Slee Short Bus front bumper, rear bumper and sliders, and the OME...

    Dual Battery Gremlins

A lot of folks don’t care to wire it all up the old fashioned way but that’s exactly how I do it. I use a Blue Sea manual switch. The only failure point would be me, forgetting to switch it on or off. Years ago I was in -35f up outside of Halifax. The company truck I was in had 6 house...

    Solar wiring

Forgive me, I hope I’m not asking a question with an obvious answer. I searched and could only find answers about everything but this: I’m using a Renogy PWM 30 amp controller; two panels, one mounted on the racks and one portable totaling 220 watts. I have a #6 Hotwire from the house battery...

    LX450

I’ve researched quite a bit over the years and cannot find how many LX450s are still registered in the USA. It’s pretty common knowledge that only 14,000 were imported. Does anyone have a clue? Thanks !

    Am I nuts?

True, i spent over 17 years going to Quebec every week. Sometimes twice a week. Over the years I learned enough quebecois to be polite and pick up on the topics of conversations.

    Am I nuts?

Bought it and all the service records 7 years and 110 thousand miles ago. I figure it’ll have 350k miles on it when we head north as we do tour the western US every year. New seats for the 450 and beefing up our trailer frame is in order before Alaska.

    Chevy Colorado / Technical Ability

Well, I made the decision to not go into the needles. My BIL is very inexperienced so, instead of getting him in over his head, we’re gonna reserve a few sights on the WRT, then head over to Rafael Swell for a couple of days of touring.

Hmmm, then it seems my hunch is spot on, I would be nuts to spend any more time considering my nutty thoughts. I thought so.
