All of your points are valid. Not much of a cool guy factor with a tent tho, so I assume that's why 90% of the time a RTT is more popular.
The main reason I use my RTT over a ground tent is simple, rocks. I do mostly desert camping. After 10+ years of going to anza borregoI have found 4 spots...
Have a good trip, not in the market for any of that but maybe reach out to Basils Garage in Vista. They may be interested? They do a lot of flatbed and baja surf inspired builds.
Any interest in getting aluminum pre cut, you assemble and add insulaton? My buddy Michaelbone_ on instagram had a local place CNC cut all of his aluminum panels and then he assembled it in his garage. Smaller than what you are looking to do but you get the idea. Would depend on your fab skills...
"Unfortunately, that was about it because I thought traveling with newborns/toddlers would be easy before having them."
LOL, isn't that the truth. I feel this to my core. Best of luck selling. Awesome truck!
I have a knock off trasharoo from Amazon and a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. I use both on and off. They both work well and are cheap. I tend to use the bag for fire wood and then the bucket for trash.
So with your XLT, did it not come with an overhead console? Why did you originally buy this?
Asking because I am always in the market for F150 stuff, including your 2.5s you posted lol. I've wanted to add an overhead console to my STX, but to my knowledge, you cant add one without changing the...
I just checked the build site for Ford assuming I'd be able to show you otherwise.... How silly. You cant option for a larger tank on a SD but you can for an F150??? Lame.
There is an options for a 58 gallon aftermarket tank.....for $2700.
Correct. You can still order a 2023 I am pretty sure, limited configurations. 3.5 EB or 5.0 engines only. Certain cab configurations.
That's why I said F250 from the get go. Avoids trying to find that one specific F150 in a sea of average F150s.
Not that I am biased or anything, but Ford. If it were me, I would size up on the truck so payload of whatever you do or want to do isn't really even a question. Second option for me would be Ram. Personally, I'd stay away from Chevy. I don't think anything they have put out in over a decade has...
You'll be amazed what a full size truck can do with proper mods and an experienced driver. I started off roading in high school with the family Excursion (basically an F250) and was always amazed at what it could do. And yes, full size is the go to for overland campers because of large payload...
How them bed supports holding up? I have always kind of wanted some. Don't feel they are really needed for me since my RTT and rack come off when I'm driving around town so there's no real weight. Did you see any flexing on the bedsides that made you get them?
So awesome! You 100% found the best shop for this type of build. Basil is a great dude, have spoken to him numerous times and a bunch of my friends have used him. The fact he lived nomadic in Bruce for so long definitely helps, too.
Best of luck on your trip. Sounds so awesome.
What Calicamper said. I know of a few guys that strap them to the roof inside for longer travel times, then mount on the side when they're around town or on trail.
Search for the build by basil lynch and his awesome camper "Bruce". He had some long boards mounted to his camper while travelling...
