Thanks for all the good words above, it's been a grind for nearly 6 months and it's definitely super rewarding to see it all start to materialize. Still lots to do though.
Thanks for this. There was 2 goals with the deck, make sure it doesn't look like the municipal truck flat decks you see...
Continued on the passenger side today:
Big booty, looking forward to getting a nice reverse light and spare tire set up completed to finish this out.
This is definitely a milestone, first real miles on the swap after a 6-month grind.
Really stoked on how the deck came out. From an idea in...
Thank you, but don't let the pictures fool you, it's more about being cheap and stubborn than talent...
Time is ticking, baby is due in a month... It never feels like I get enough done in a day right now. Thanks for the encouragement though.
Thanks, definitely bolting these, not welding...
^ She knows, I'm just not sure if I'm that committed yet. I did start eyeing up some flat tow packages at the junk yard the other day.
Thanks, happy with how they turned out, great product. I have a pair of the dome lights in my other camper. They are awesome. I wish they sold the interior ones...
Thanks, I just can't wait to take it out in the bush and see how it rides. It should be greatly improved over the stock set up.
Thanks for this, hope the final product doesn't dissapoint. Can't wait to get started on the camper.
Maybe some 35's and a 3 link in the front? The wife and I tossed...
Well, after a lot spools and some burn tips, this thing is fully welded out and everything ground flat that needs to be.
Definitely testing the safety factor of this picker at max reach... The closer you look the worse it gets...
By some miracle, everything cleared, shock mounts, exhaust...
Yesterday was a great day for progress.
Started out with some satisfying final assembly stuff. Really stoked on this mount, it was easy to get done and came out super strong.
Took my old leafs apart to confirm I was glad I put this other pack together. Significant wear at the end of the...
These turned out great, just waiting on some isolators and I can put them together.
I spent quite a few hours getting my driveshafts and pinion angle absolutely dialled in.
I had to look at some more diagrams to understand proper geometry for a 3-joint shaft.
The first part is set at .05*...
Thanks, way too much time into one piece, especially considering no one will ever see it once the campers on...
Now the trick is keeping the bench clear.
Big day today. I'm calling this a milestone; this thing officially has driveshafts!
1350 front 2.75" heavy wall & 1480 rear 4" heavy wall...
Shoot, sorry to hear about your mechanical issues. Sounds like it faired ok in the end regardless. Nothing like a failure on a trip to have you questioning the reliability of a vehicle. Still one of my favourite trucks on this forum.
I've adopted to wearing my Papr Miller hood whenever I'm grinding/welding now. So the safety side is less of a worry.
Oooof, the criticism cuts deep on the nuts and bolts haha. I usually do a big bench clean at the end of a project, but this one has spiralled for a bit too long. I've got several...
^ Glad I can be of inspiration haha, some days I don't feel like I'm making much headway...
Today was bump day, started on the rear contact pad - not really sure what to call this?
From template
Cut out of some old 3/8" blind plate, probably overkill for thickness, but didn't want to risk...
It should be pretty rad when it's done. It'll be a massive table and something easy that the wife can push a button on her phone and it'll drop into place. It's a project for another day though. I need to finalize the camper dovetail dimensions first.
Pulled the deck for hopefully the final...
Had a productive weekend,
Started assembly of the compressor,
It's going to live in this void next to the red positive terminal,
After a fair bit of monkeying around, the final product. Really happy with this, it puts out a ton of air even at idle. It'll be interesting to compare side by...
I did more running around today than actual work, but I think I've set myself up well for the next week.
This should be everything I need for materials, and I'll have plenty of leftovers to finish out the boxes, hopefully.
Checking my collapsed gasket height against the angle for the box door...
Onwards and upwards, as they say.
Picked up our new flat deck boxes, some assembly required.
4x10 /125" sheets
Measured up the flanges for the rear drive line.
I'm off for a few days and have dubbed this week' Flat Deck Week. '
Got the air tank situated.
Next, I tacked in my corner...
^ thanks, that's great to hear first hand feedback.
This news hits way too close to home -

For anyone who wasn't familiar with their channel, they were BC based and had some great content. The similarities between...
Managed to get a full day in on it today.
It won't be long and he'll be the one lying under the truck asking me to pass him tools.
Made up the lines and got everything oriented just right
Checking line length at max droop
Tons of slack
Took a minute to get all of the air out of the...
^ thanks, that's good to hear, the wife hates them. I need to finalize the rear flood lights and license plate lights.
Truer words were never spoken. It also doesn't help my machining tools are a 4" grinder and cheapo drill press. I must have made 15 different cardboard templates for that...
