Amen. Having personally watched the skies in Los Angeles from the mid-80s until now the impact of strict emissions standards is striking. I can remember those summers of can't see a 1/4 mile because of the smog - ugh. I'll gladly pay to replace a flaky O2 sensor or whatever to be able to both...
Yeah, not clear the GM line has improved any. What I see some old time Toyota owners complaining about is that while GM might not have improved much, perhaps Toyota has gotten less reliable to the point it isn't that much better than GM. (Not my personal opinion, just reporting my impression...
Just to return to the "it depends on the user" topic in a different way...
If you use your truck as a "truck" for hauling stuff a lot - almost daily - then of course buy for that. Someone mentioned flipping houses and lots and lots of trips to Home Depot. Makes perfect sense.
On the other...
No, they were asked multiple times by multiple people at the show and said pricing TBD.
People are guessing the MSRP increases shouldn't be too much above normal year to year inflation given the competition from Colorado/Canyon and I saw on another forum a dealer indicated that to someone who...
No, same gear ratios. It is a different rear differential though (because of the E-locker apparently) with different diameter gears. But the ratios are all the same.
Sorry, didn't see your post originally until the OP just bumped.
With the 2nd gens apparently the CVs themselves are just fine with the angles. The main issue is the boots - at high angles the ends of the belows rub and eventually rupture - and then that can take out the CV if you don't notice...
Yes, Ford did it too. Actually the Ford "scandal" broke first and then people realized GM was doing it too. I only mentioned GM as the Colorado/Canyon payload is relevant to the Tacoma discussion while Ford no longer makes a mid-size in the US.
Here's a link to the GM cheating...
Yeah, well those are nice numbers on the internet - but the manufacturers don't stand behind them at all. Go look at a door sticker or an owners manual. For a DCSB TRD OR V6 the door sticker will say around 1050 lbs. The owners manual says just 1040 lbs for a V6 4x4 DCSB. GM was caught red...
Those have way less usable space than even a 5 ft bed with a shell and bring a heavier chassis along as well. Plus if you are doing a Flip Pac or certain pop-ups the 6 ft bed doesn't actually offer much advantage in space (you can drop the tailgate with many pop-ups). But yes, if you are using...
Well they did talk about cutting weight out of the chassis with added high strength steel, but as the current Tacomas once outfitted with a TRD OR and Tow package only have payloads around 1100 lbs it would seem gaining 600 lbs of payload is a stretch. The Colorado/Canyon which just straight up...
One of the important things to remember is the TRD comes essentially with all the SR5 options too. So if don't want all that interior fanciness and would prefer to go base then the TRD is making you buy a whole bunch of stuff not related to off-road performance and most definitely you can do...
Other apparent bed difference is there is no rail along the front of the bed anymore (side rails still there). As to exact dimensions, haven't seen any myself.
I don't think we know this yet.
Probably not is the answer. Overall length is 3" longer in the front and 1" in the back. It seems like most of that was taken up in increased crumple zones (much of the big nose is empty).
I'm hearing first allocation (i.e. orders can be placed with a dealer) in June. Not sure on the delivery but August would seem the very earliest for a June allocation. Toyota says "Fall" but perhaps August or September could count as "Fall". The Toyota fleet ordering page shows 2015 delivery...
I've been a manual transmission guy for years, nonetheless I'm in the process of putting in an order for an automatic on my 2015 Tacoma. For off road there are pluses and minuses to both depending on the situation. In some cases the directly connected drive train of a manual is an advantage...
TRD OR compared to SR5 gets you a few useful things you might like for a price difference of $1.5K:
- Rear locker
- ATRAC and DAC
- Suspension
- Inverter with outlet in the bed
Now you can of course add a non OEM locker, but given what you say you drive on I doubt you ever would. So with the...
Yes, so apparently things got confusing in their presentation on Monday. They were talking up the new 6-speed auto on both engines, and a redesigned 6 speed manual for the V6. What got lost in the translation was that apparently the old 5-speed MT will still be available on the 4-banger...
Yeah, apparently the ability to run ultra-lean and meet emissions depends both on the type of catalytic converter used as well as the sulfur content of the fuel. In the past the US has had much more strict NOx emission standards and higher sulfur gas then the rest of the world so that would be...
Thanks guys. Both the Aluminess and the APEX look like good Al front bumpers with winch mounts. Good point on winch mount and resale, given it will be aluminum perhaps the winch mount really doesn't add much weight to be concerned with. And thanks for the link to SOS, sure looks like I can...
