Agreed on the typicals. Unfortunately due to the leg / knee issues I had to pass on an '04 with under 100K, 1 owner, all records etc... But it is a manual trans truck, and I can't operate a clutch any more, and my wife has been able to manage one...
Considering my sole drone flying experiences have involved trees, crashing, breaking, rebuilding and trying again, I would say your drone footage is WAY better than what I have managed thus far. Note to self, do NOT use return to me function when standing under a tree for shade!
Seriously...
I liked them when they came out, still like them. And they are certainly reasonably priced on the used market...
I am looking for a first Gen Xterra 4x4, preferrably the normally aspirated V6 with an automatic as I have left leg issues...
Looking to find out what I need to look for, and look...
Wow, great pics! I haven't watched the video yet...
I get a lot of guff from folks here for sticking with a CB and a 102" whip, but they are sure useful for communications, AND a mount point for a buggy whip flag!
Hoping to make progress on my build out soon...
Spent some quality time with the roller frame today, and some cross slats made with scrap 5/8" pine ply. Even with my weight, no flexing of the slats. I am thinking a more continuous panel, even perforated the way I described above will work...
I have the last pieces for my kitchen / shower...
So here goes more thought process... Plywood cabinets need to be sealed to prevent wood rot, and honestly they are HEAVY. I intend to minimze their presence...
Spent some time designing the bed and cabinet system. Working simplest approach first. So approach A...
Utilize modded roller bed...
I saw the 3" lifts but have been told 2.5 is as much as you want to push the ball joints. Honestly the original ball joints didn't even make 100K with a 2.5" lift... Go figure...
I like those slightly newer trucks. You get the full crew cab with a full 6.5 foot bed! Niiiiice!
I've got that...
That frame is awesome, somewhat overbuilt IMHO but if your tow vehicle is up to the task why not? As far as the box is concerned, fiberglass over foam isn't nearly as hard as you seem to think it is... And once cured, well done fiberglass offers a fair amount of structural strength. There is a...
So did some more checking around. My old 6.5K BTU Window unit is a 2006ish GoldStar which apparently became LG(?), anyway, it's old, and really needs a replacement. 6.5K BTU is nice for a 10x14 tent with a tarp keeping the sun off of it and heat out, BUT it is a bit much for a truck canopy...
Just curious, and mind you, the thread is pretty much TL:DR so please forgive me for missing this. But it seems with the amounts of added metal, and components, why didn't you just start off with bare steel and DIY the entire thing? Seems like you might have saved time, money, and effort. Nice...
Just a thought, but if you are going with a dedicated truck + truck camper, why not just go with a class C motorhome based on say an E450 chassis? Just thinking out loud here, but you are going to need a LOT of truck to haul that 3300lb dry, probably 3800+ lbs loaded TC.
Okay, design target so far....
2004 F150 XLT Supercab 4x4 5.4L 3V. Engine rebuild in progress. All upgraded hardware with TSB fixes on the VCT system, and an upgraded Melling Hi Flow oil pump. 9.75" . Regear front and rear to 4.10s and if I am correct here, I believe ARB air lockers are...
Same general idea, but I went quick with the Joolca Ensuite double instead of the springy singles. I guess I could have done a double but I didn't want to wrestle it. I think your Camplux is an older model than mine, I have the current 5L, great little heater...
My plan is to in use, hang the...
So a few more questions for the O.P.
Is the panel the ac mounts in removable or do you leave it in full time?
Is your cap insulated?
Do you have any sort of awning on the rig?
There's a young guy on YouTube building an aluminum hi top cap that looks okay... joinery using alumiweld though...
I KNOW nobody makes one like this. But why not a Lambo style swing away spare carrier that just sort of scissors at a pivot point to allow access to the tailgate / bed without having to swing past a trailer?
That is kind of why I am doing my build a piece at a time and using what I have, or have been collecting literally for at least 35 years. Lots of estate sale camping gear, lower to mid range stuff modded to fit my specific needs etc...
Before I am ready to hit the trails, I likely will have...
Another update. I hate the idea of wrenching the gas line on and off every single time. I verified fitting sizes and ordered a Joolca Gasknect quick connect setup.
I believe I have gone as far as I want to / ought to with this rig other than modifying the water supply / filtration. The...
Assuming even mediocre insulation, 5K BTU should be way more than enough for a 5x8 trailer, even assuming it is a stand up trailer, and not soft sided like a pop up. Careful shopping for a 5K BTU window unit and you can find a lot of models that pull max draw of 4.5 amps, some slightly lower...
