^ thanks, it's super clean.
Picked up an exterior temp sensor for the planar. This is something I've been wanting for a minute.
Now we'll have the heater temp, thermostat temp & exterior. Looking forward to seeing how cold we can go and keep it comfortable inside.
Haven't made much progress...
Thanks for the good words.
It's been a slow couple weeks,
I got the new cab mounts plates cut down.
Picked up this digital elite helmet for a smoking deal - $50
Got the frame done. Cleaned up all the sharp edges and knocked down anything that needed a touch up.
2 full coats of por 15...
Started fixing the two rotten cab mounts
Have to mark/cut out the old mount and stitch the new ones in next.
And some SAS motivation. What the truck would look like with no lift and 35's. As long as I don't want to steer, I'm good!
In all seriousness, I wanted a visual. Confirmed 33's &...
Bingo!
I’ve got the borg Warner 4472 t-case and all the bits and pieces on the bench.
Working towards an LSawd with some really nice suspension bits.
The 4wd platform has much better suspension geometry, it’s nearly fully boxed and a much better starting point. The old 2wd frame experienced 30...
One of the driving mechanisms behind building the camper for 4 seasons was to be able to do this:
Bacon in the parking lot and fresh snow!
Got a front row seat watching the groomers do their thing.
So nice to wake up and not rush to get to the hill. It was almost surreal to just hang out...
^ Amen to the above. Thanks gentlemen.
78 F-150 and the astro sound like some awesome projects. That K5 w/ belair body must have been pretty unique haha.
On a slightly different note I got started on the frame swap for the '84.
Dropped it off at the blasters and 2 hours later this is what I...
First of all bravo! The fit and finish on this topper is unreal. The attention to detail is second to none.
In regards to mattresses, we went the cheaper route, milliard, and have no regrets. It's firm and even when kneeling I don't bottom out (200lbs).
There are tons of adhesive backed options...
I love this thread, so much great stuff on the previous pages. AT's, 4WC & alaskans, hard to beat most of those. That flatdeck tacoma back there is a great looking rig as well!
Here's our homebuilt topper,
Absolutely drooling over all that Alaskan porn on the previous page.
Your rig puts such a smile on my face. It's so cool to see such a unique rig still rolling down the road.
Can't wait to see more pics.
Last modification was to redo the back window. I mounted it roughly 6" to high for no reason at all...
I hope I never have to do this again. Trying to remove all the pieces once sika'd together is a very arduous task.
Reworked the bracing,
New sheet of 0.060"
All that's left is the window...
We did some more proper winter camping,
I finally found another window for the front wall
Not bad for $20. Testing to see if we wanted to full commit.
Got both the new front and old rear windows tinted to match the sides.
Fully committed
Absolutely stoked on how it looks...
I installed some baja dome lights inside, these were a much needed upgrade from headlamps and magnetic flashlights.
Huge upgrade for us
Back at it,
Nights like these I'm so happy with this set up.
This is the reason I didn't want anything more than a topper.
Try to pull...
Soft sided campers definitely have their place. I don't think I would want to deal with -20C or dropping in that kind of set up though.
If I could have bought something for my platform that met my needs I would have. It's a huge time commitment and honestly it's still not cheap. If you factor...
Quick update on the exterior progress.
Badges mounted and looking awesome.
Something that's always bugged me about the camper is the back window (see green line).
I mounted it 6" to high, no real reason, it was an honest mistake. I also hate that it it's not tinted like the side windows...
^ wrong type of girl if their not interested in this stuff in my opinion.
Sheesh, this will be a big problem if we have kids here soon. Reg cab life does not align with child life haha.
Whats next - I will likely pick away at everything slowly and accomplish nothing haha. Finish out the...
The upper box wraps around the back of the inner box by about 11/2" on either side. I secured two pieces of hdpe as slides to control the forward/back movement while lifting. I also installed 4 tabs against the actuators that keep them from tipping more than 1" in either direction.
I opted out...
It's my kind of meditation!
'14 was a good year for those trucks! It's definitely camping for us. Thanks, appreciate the good words.
Quick side project Saturday,
Finally got motivation to knock this one off. So happy it's done now.
I went with Sika 221 & rivets. Very forgiving to install and is holding up great.
221 doesn't have as much shear strength as VHB but unless you need that inherent shear, it's irrelevant.
