I mean that’s definitely not true. Midsize truck payload is what, 1000 lbs? F250 payload is over 3000. So it’s like 2-3x as hard to overload it.
But I get your point - weight tends to add up quick.
If you’re going with an F250/F350 you can definitely afford to be less weight conscious than on a midsize or even half ton pickup. Also, a lot less lead time for steel.
I am in the midst of doing research on flat beds for my 8 foot bed F150.
Ute aluminum flat beds were about $6k with install. Weigh 400lbs
Norweld $10k without install.
Steel flatbed is $4000 with install, weighs 600lbs.
I’m probably going to go with steel due to availability and cost. 200lbs...
Ive been living out of a FWC Grandby Shell for the last couple months and my biggest complaint about the FWC is in regards to their electrical wiring which I know hasn’t changed much.
Poorly crimped connectors, weird/excessive connections, too small wire, etc and now they are using overpriced...
At least for my 2018 3.3 there’s ZERO room under the hood for a spare battery - it was quite a shock coming from a Tacoma where I managed to squeeze 3x batteries and an air compressor under the hood and now I struggled to fit an sPOD.
I think those are mostly issues with moving to a larger tire size, not necessarily related to the skinny tire size - in fact I think having the skinny tire size on actually mitigated a lot of those issues over moving to a 285 size tire.
I have a 2018 F150 (XL :ROFLMAO:) with Falcon shocks and a FWC Grandby and I am a huge fan.
I have 3.73 gears and a pay load package and I’m about 700 over - I plan on slimming it down a bit, but I’m more or less content with it as is.
I had a set of Icon Stage 4 in my old Tacoma I was never a huge fan of, and when I got my F150 I wanted to do things “right” the first time and just get Kings.
I ended up getting the Falcons because of the price point, and I’m overall very happy with my decision. I have a Four Wheel Camper...
Uhhh, that post you quoted is 8 months old. Both companies prices have changed since my initial post.
I still stand by what I said, and while the price difference might have gotten bigger you will also get the Drifter sooner (the GFC lead time is like 12 months now which is crazy..good problem...
I am debating between these and Kings for my 2018 F150 with a Four Wheel Camper.
What tire size are you running? You mentioned 285, which I assume is a 33, but I’d like to run 35s if possible.
Did you get a new UCA? How’s the alignment without one?
So, after much consideration it's time for me to sell my Vagabond Outdoors Drifter. I love the camper, but the 5 foot Tacoma bed is just too small to live out of during the winter - during the summer I could spend the majority of my time outside, but during the winter its much more difficult and...
