Newbie looking for first rig (Rig acquired, now it's a build thread!)

Martin, That makes a lot of sense! Unfortunately, my options are limited because of my family size. As I stated before, I've always owned Chevy/GMC rigs (and a couple Jeeps) and been very happy with them, so looking at a Ford is awkward for me LOL! I will however, take your advice and at...

Newbie looking for first rig (Rig acquired, now it's a build thread!)

Well the 2500 I was going to look at today is no longer available. The search goes on! Toastyjosh - Thanks for the heads up on those! I'm really trying to find something under 200k miles. Maybe that's a long shot on that old a vehicle, but there are a few. I'm not really interested in the...

Newbie looking for first rig (Rig acquired, now it's a build thread!)

Thanks for that great explanation Martin! I've decided to look for a Suburban or Yukon XL since I will need the extra space. I found a 1996 Suburban 2500. 7.4, 4l80e, and 4.10's with 178k for $3500. Going to look at it tomorrow.

Right now, not planning to tow much. Maybe a small trailer or small boat.

Newbie looking for first rig (Rig acquired, now it's a build thread!)

Awesome! Thanks for all the advice guys! I'm learning a lot about these just reading your build threads. We had a 2wd 2000 suburban for a few years and I loved it. It got totaled sitting in front of our apartment so we moved up to the GMC Savana. I've built a couple XJ's and TJ's and loved them...

Newbie looking for first rig (Rig acquired, now it's a build thread!)

Hey guys, I'm a pretty experienced jeeper, but need a full size for my family of 8 now. Looking at a couple options and I wanted some feedback as to what will work best and last longer. We are in northern Idaho and will have a lot of snow to deal with as well as the mountains and back road...

Looking at a 1st gen SWB. Reliable?

Thanks guys! I'm trying to get more info from the owner since he's quite a ways from me. I'm also looking at a '94 that may fit my needs a little better too.

Looking at a 1st gen SWB. Reliable?

Thank you ultrakill, From my reading it seems that overall they are great rigs. I really want one! But most of what I found was about the Gen 2-2.5. And I didn't see much about the Gen 1 four banger (2.6). My main concern is passing the CA smog test.

Looking at a 1st gen SWB. Reliable?

Hi, Sorry my first post is about a rig I haven't even bought yet, but I'm trying to get into a Montero and the options around me in my price range are kind of thin. I'm looking at an '84 with less than 120k. It's a 4 cyl, auto, 4x4. Everything looks really nice on it but the owner says he had a...
