It goes without saying, but we camp in these areas rather than a KOA to see the the natural beauty and experience wilderness. The trip afforded plenty of both, with many short trips and hikes to see waterfalls and the beauty of the area.
Emerald Lake - a mile or 2 from our campsite.

The horse that brought us there - and back. This was our first adventure trip in our new to us (5+ yrs old) Land Rover Discovery. It was the platform for the trip - from finding beautiful, secluded spots for camping and hiking, to providing shelter with...

After a few days on the Grand Mesa, we said our farewells to Ace and Richard and took off for the Paradise Basin area, in the Elk Mountains just west of Crested Butte. We usually try to stay in a hotel (hot showers, dinner out) after a few nights...
Love the campfire photo. Thanks Ace! I'm getting nostalgic and it's only been a few weeks. It was great to renew and make new friendships around the fire and out on the trail.
My wife and I work from home and took advantage of that arrangement to escape the summer heat in Arizona and rent an AirBnB in Montrose, CO, for a part of the summer. Then we followed that with a week of camping and adventure in the Rockies.
For the camping, we - or rather I - usually like to...
Hi, sure, the VIN is SALAG25425A314315.
Dash cover replacement is a solid, full cover and affixed with adhesive. The dash wasn't bad, as LR3 cracked dashes go, but It looks a lot better with the cover - one of those where I wished I had done it sooner. Here's another interior photo of the dash:
If I knew how nice she cleans up, I would have done it more often :), a wax job and back-to-black do wonders. I took random photos from various angles. Somebody inquired about the passenger side damage, so here are a couple to try to highlight that.
See below for a photo of the clear-coat...
A few more photos:
Traxide dual battery system (I took the battery covers off for the photo)
Full set of Asfir skid plates (front skid, tranny skid, Air reservoir skid, rear diff skid)
And a few adventure photos of the LR3 in its element; it's ready for more!

[Edits note: This is my first listing for the vehicle, and I'm updating the listing based on questions I receive and things thought about after the initial posting. Most of the edits are in the "It's a Land Rover thing" (known problems) section.]

Hi Ace, good to hear from you and look forward to seeing you on a trail again! We got a Discovery 5 - 7rs old, 90K miles, ready to start its life of adventure!
The final full-day on the trail had more interesting sites.

Beautiful skies enhance the huge vistas on Soda Lake and the Traveler's Monument (ad hoc rock pile).
Nearing the Afton end of the trail, as we went under a railroad bridge, we posed the vehicles beneath the bridge, and...
Post 2. Continued
In settler days, the Army set up forts at water sources, and we took a little detour to explore the remains of Fort Piute.

When you come to a monument about the role of the railroad in California settlement, you have to stop.
An interesting section...
It's good to have been doing an activity long enough that you can just pick up and go--or change tack and take another route. We were planning on a warm'ish-weather trip in southern Arizona during the New Year's break, but socio/economic/governmental issues with legal and illegal border...
From there, the next stop was Hovatter home location. We had been here before, but it is such an interesting place with a sad history. The family built a home here and the wife was a botanist by hobby. The home burnt down and I recall that a daughter died from burns. Yet the many little touches...
I didn't bring my book of trail ratings on this trip, and thus far, we ended up taking a lot of more challenging trails. In retrospect, I think this was largely due to the fact that we wanted to explore places we hadn't been, and on previous trips, we tended more toward the 3-rated trails over...
Apologies for stringing this out. On previous posts, I'd reference shared images on Google photos, but that's not working. Image uploads are working, but now I'm running into upload limitations. Gonna finish it tonight.
My wife and I had a couple trips through KofA under our belts, so we tried...
