Second Alternator Charging Lithium Battery Bank

I'm actually running an experiment on my personal camper with 400Ah of LiFePO4 batteries directly connected to the alternator. The chassis is an older RAM 2500, and it smoked the alternator within about a month. I've put a new alternator in and am going to see how well it holds up.

Second Alternator Charging Lithium Battery Bank

I hear what you are saying, but we typically install the Sterling on trucks with 397A dual alternator packages, so overloading the alternator isn't an issue in our application. Agree that even though they are rated for exposure it is better to install the DC-to-DC in the house. That also helps...

Should I Jump on 2007 Mitsubishi Fg140 4x4 for sale?

price seems high for that amount of mileage, but a lot depends on the condition of the chassis - if it was used as a plow truck expect a lot of bad rust. Also, check the synchros since those tend to go out.

    4WC - Overrated and overpriced

They are completely sold out of campers so there's a good chance you can get your money back out of it, if you've decided it isn't for you.

Second Alternator Charging Lithium Battery Bank

I would just add a Sterling 120A DC-to-DC charger to the existing dual alternator system and be done with it.

    Opinions between Espar and Webasto?

I like Webasto because the coolant pump is integrated into the burner instead of a separate assembly.

Nice rig - those are 41" tires? How are the differentials set up?

Crew cab long bed (8ft) for overlanding??? Is this viable or realistic?

It all depends on where you want to go. Out West is a lot easier because you don't have the issue of trails getting overgrown like the more lush Eastern US. We build our Nimbl Evolution on 1-ton longbed (8 foot) pickup trucks, our camper footprint is actually 8'9". I would never consider...

Earth Roamer-ish, but smaller, cheaper, in Az

It can, but the 6.4 is probably the least desirable powerstroke out there, it has a reputation for being a throwaway engine (good for 150k miles). The 6.0 was at least pre-DEF and the later years are actually pretty decent if you are religious about the service intervals, but the 6.4 has all...

GEO-cab German Carbon Fiber Truck Camper

Always cool to see other folks building expedition vehicles in the space. I wish there were some specs on capacities, weights, etc. In the US it is just really difficult to build on anything other than a 1-ton because the payload just isn't there in the more compact vehicles. For example, a...

    Expensive, but probably worth it.

I don't love the floorplan on that one. A camper that size should have a side entry and be able to accommodate a dedicated bed v. a convertible couch.

    2003 Ford F350 4x4 6.0 bulletproofed diesel eBay *auction* starting $24k 67k miles

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

Lol, no - they will have their reveal when they are ready, none of us would want to steal their thunder!

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

No, I actually stopped by and said hi to them a few weeks ago, some hard working folks with a vision. Not sure how far out there are from doing a reveal but it is a real product not vaporware.

    Fuso frame thickness

On my Fuso (2007) the only 6mm frame section is the step up between the payload and the cab. Everything else is 4.5mm.

Sad End to This Cautionary Tale, As Folks Start to Head Back Out Into the Wilds, Pls Be Careful

We actually did the Willow Canyon hike a couple of months ago. About 2.5 miles from the parking area it becomes impassable without ropes and climbing equipment. We didn't go beyond that point, so no idea what other obstacles the route has to offer. As others have noted, it's telling that they...

Shuttle Bus - 2010 Ford E-Series Van 4 Wheel Drive (163K miles, $24,500, located in Roy, Utah)

I've never been a fan of these solo driver layouts, but if that's not an issue it looks like a nice little 4x4 bus at that price. Due to the size a "rough road" not an "off road" vehicle, IMHO. I'd like to know who did the conversion since it is leafs up front.

Has anyone seen one of these yet?

I stopped by on the spur of the moment earlier this week to say hey (they are very close to Battle Born Batteries and I had just picked up some kit there). It's not just vaporware, they are working hard to create a cool product. Can't wait to see it when they are ready for the reveal. Btw...
