Gaia GPS and the National Parks layer

Are you talking about having it projected on your vehicle's screen using CarPlay or using the app on a mobile device? The mobile app is pretty buggy, but project it using CarPlay and it reaches a whole new level of frustration and buggy-ness. Using the iPhone app at least you can pinch zoom to...

    My OVRLND build

Suspension and tire upgrades have happened! After a 9 month wait -- 2 months longer than expected, I got my King suspension. I did this because of the unreliability of the DSSV shocks. One of them blew and spewed oil all over the floor. They are expensive to replace and nobody is rebuilding...

    The Escape 19

Are you sure a Propex is more efficient, and is efficiency that important when you can carry 40 lbs of propane? I would be really reluctant to pull out the Atwood in my Escape 17B personally unless it was a noise issue. Just curious what your reasoning is there.

    My OVRLND build

No mold or wetness whenever I've taken a peek behind the reflectix. I've been camping in well below freezing temps a few nights and have been surprised at the lack of condensation. I'm not cooking inside though. Dealing with condensation and mold is why I mounted it with Velcro, but that will...

    My OVRLND build

Agree. This is definitely something I plan to do eventually. First I'm replacing the stock DSSV shocks with Kings all around. I ordered them back in May 2021 and they are just now shipping (!). I've already blown one DSSV and they are just not strong enough for regular off-road use. Pics...

    My OVRLND build

Hey aaaslayer, sorry I didn't see this earlier. I'm in South Lake Tahoe which is quite a ways away from you. I think you already picked up your camper. I have some hand drawn plans for the aluminum extrusion part if you or anyone else are interested. After using it for a year or so it's...

If you are going to insulate the tailgate, you would want to insulate the entire truck bed as well. I really don't think it's worth it, but I'm sure someone has done it. My truck has a rubbery spray-on bedliner which takes the edge off the conducting of cold into the bed a little. If you have...

Yes, I stack the 2 3" cushions on top of each other. This doesn't fit perfectly, but with a little downward pull on the front it's easy to latch and close. I pull the top cushion out about 9" before closing which is what Jay recommended to make it fit better.

Regarding insulation, my 1" double-foil Polyiso + reflectix has been tested multiple nights with temps in the mid to upper 20's. I feel like the chief benefit is that it doesn't radiate ice-cold onto you from the exposed aluminum. It doesn't retain the heat for long though. The tent part is...

Sorry for the late reply. It's ski season so not reading expeditionportal much these days. They will cut it into any size you want, in rectangles or squares. I don't think they have a vinyl wrap though. All the details are on their website. I personally wouldn't want vinyl but my use case...

https://www.foambymail.com/HDHQM/hd36-hq-foam-mattress.html Don't go cheap and get the non-HQ type. Thickness will depend on how thick you had the cabover made. Mine was thick enough for 3" of foam (stacked to 6" when put away). This is the best foam I've ever slept on and works as thin as...

Most secure pick up bed cover

I loved my undercover and I'm not bashing it because it worked great for my purpose, but it was far from secure. The lock just rotates a very thin rod under a thin plate. You can easily pry it up. When I sold it, I told the new owner that it was keyed to my truck key and I wasn't sure how to...

    Generator ban in California?

Generators aren't just for camping and there has been discussion in my neighborhood (South Lake Tahoe, CA) about the small engine ban. We are in the midst of a multi-day power outage here caused by snow and wind. I was without power for 19 hours and ran my Honda EU2000 the entire time. You...

How Would You Spec It? Ovrlnd Camper

I didn't order mine with any windows and don't regret that at all. I probably would have broken the back windows by now. Having solid doors allows me to stuff stuff in the back and not worry about breaking the windows. Side windows are not useful for me. The inside driver side wall is where...

winter tires when I live where it snows a lot but also plan to go to the desert?

I have 65,000 miles on my OEM Duratracs that came with my Chevy Colorado ZR2 and find them to be quite good in the kinds of conditions we get in Tahoe. That means ice, slush, heavy rain, packed snow, and of course VERY deep snow. I mean like 24" on the road deep. We live on a side road that...

    Battery isolation ideas

I don't know what kind of batteries you are thinking about, but if you go LiFePO4 (Lithium), you can forego the isolator completely and use a DC-DC charger that turns on only when the ignition is on. Use one of those maxi-fuse inline fuse holders close to where it connects to the truck battery...

    Narrow(est) awning?

3 options I can think of: 1. Move the other awning forward until the rear awning will clear it and get a 48". Side awning position usually doesn't matter as much. This is the cheapest option. 2. Replace the existing awning with a 270 degree free standing (wing style) awning. Most expensive...
