That m4 / m5 screws are available at Lowes. Hardware section. Probably even on stainless. Not sure if you can get a screw driver between the radiator and the protection plate? I would go with an Allen or hex head.. or leave it of altogether..
Lucky it did not come loose and catapulted into you...
Just a thougt.. to keep it kiss... Have two smaller 12 volt house batteries in parallel.. in case of emergencies you can switch them for the starters..
Going from 12 to 24 is no big deal but the Ah are going to be half. Not sure what the capacity of your 12 volt house battery is and how much ah you want to transfer in your 24 volt starter battery ? It also would take a long time..
To late for that now if you do not have it but I only use...
Good idea, I just did that and made the same test drive as in the video.. no smoke that I could see..also with the PCV / ccv disconnected it seem I have a slight negative pressure on the oil filler cap .
Then I checked the axial play in the turbo and it was about 1 mm.. so the turbo can use some...
Nice work, uhmw expands 5 times as fast as steel , do not try to maintain high tolerances. How are you keeping sand out of the bearing surfaces?
Good luck
Johan
Hope in a couple of more days. My goal is 55 mph with 16 mpg and top max 60 for short bursts.. before I can get that far I will have to mount temp sensors on each wheel portal and also the tranny itself..
Slowly parts get buttoned up..more wiring organizing.. coolant leaks..cluster mod for idiot lights related to the TDI engine.
Kept the intercooler out for now and bypassed with a high end chrome pipe.. the slip joint came apart when the turbo spoiled up.. a self tapping screw prevented that...
Geo.lander. the TSL17 has it own 12 v or 24 v pump.. the reason for the floor heat was less energy use in fans and less noise.
We did use a large oversized radiator with computer fan in series with the floor heat. That helps with heating up from start.
There is a fphe with the engine loop. To...
Geo.lander. we have floor heating in our bus . 2" foam , Alu omega shape heat spreader and 7/16 plywood floor.. webasto TSL17. 1/2 pex o2.
We used three parallel equal length loops. This will give less temperature difference between the in and outlet.. also fold the loops inside each other so...
Thank you for your journal.. excellent write up... during our 6 month trip we had many breakdowns ourselves...the feel is familiar and gets old ones in a while but the feeling of victory, satisfaction and independence is good .
Hope you all are safe and the truck is not giving you more problems...
Rigged up the VW master clutch cylinder and linkage... Installed cab..needed to redo the remote oil filter and need the add two 45 degree elbows so the hose barbs do not interfere with the cab.. the starter motor fits but is to tight so some cab modification is required..
Mocked up the VW...
Just to complete the pics of the transmission.
The first one is made thru the inspection cover of the 404 bell housing..you can see how the back part of the TDI transmission housing is partially inside the 404 bell housing.
The second one is backside of the clutch pilot bearing with three M7x1...
Interesting, so the pivot axis runs under an angle thru the frame rails.. that is as in not parallel.
Are you going to repeat your test with a load on the subframe and see if it changes?
Also how do you feel about the localized stress on the frame rails when the subframe and camper pivot from...
It looks like your cab is not twisted with your subframe that much. Does your can has two connection at the front of the frame rails and one pivot in the rear? In that case the twist that I see is over the frame rails length from the hard connected frame rails to the cab tilting mounts in front...
Fantastic work.
To me the only reason for NOT having a pivot in the front ( not well possible with the tranny in the way anyhow) is that the box can sit lower without interfering with the rear wheel while the frame is twisting. So hence often people make the center or the rear the solid point...
