There is a bolt that when you tighten it locks it in solid and there is a secondary bolt the also holds it in. The only rattle is from the pivot point on the swing arm that needs a shot of grease ever now and then. Here is an action shot from the 4th of July weekend

Just put my rear tire carrier and roof rack on CL for anyone interested. Prices are obo. The tire carrier is a Hitch gate clone that I made up, it fits into a 2" receiver hitch and swings out towards the driver side. The ladder in contoured to follow the rear door of a 96 - 01 it might also...

My 4runner has developed a crack in the flex plate, Dose any one in the Tacoma, Seattle or Olympia area know a trusted mechanic shop that they've used and had good luck with their work. Thanks for your help guys Tony

Thanks guys, I wanted a tire carrier and ladder for the runner but I liked the idea of having it removable. It slides into my 2" receiver hitch and expands to lock it in the hitch. But I still have a receiver hitch to pull the trailer Here are some build pictures 2x4 .120 and 2x3 .095 wall...
